Introduction: Hey, potential student! I'm a pianist and composer trained at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I'm passionate about music as a whole. I love classical music being a pianist after all, and I definitely have my favorite bands and artists from all kinds of other genres ranging from blues, R&B, and jazz to 70s singer-songwriters, classic rock, metal, EDM, and pop. It's all music to me! My focus as a teacher is: 1) getting you to the point where you can play the music you want to play, 2) building a foundation which will allow you to move forward how you want musically (i.e. knowledge of chords, and progressions so you're able to write your own songs if you want, learning theory so you're able to read music to continue to learning even after you stop working with me, and to give you the technique at the instrument so you can actually play what it is you want to play), and, 3) broadening your music tastes (ex: you know you love pop/rock singer-songwriters or whatever you might love, but have you heard this other music by piano composers like Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy or this music that inspired your favorite artist) and just seeing the bigger picture with music and how it all ties together! I like to build playlists for my students to help show them all kinds of music they may not have otherwise heard. It's a fun added-value thing I love to do.

My favorite thing about Colin is how well he listens and pays attention during each session. He looks for what YOU want out of a lesson, such as your goals and personal taste. He takes every detail that he sees and files it away in his mind, using it later as needed to create a well structured process for you to go through that enhances the abilities you already have and builds up your weak points. He is personable, funny, down to earth, and kind. It’s not hard, as a student, to talk or listen to him which provides for a comfortable learning environment. He is even accessible over text message if you have any questions or need for schedule change. Over all I would say Colin focuses more on his student for inspiration for his teaching rather than a lifeless program or pre-made structure. That, in my opinion, is what makes his teaching unique and valuable. I would recommend him to anyone I know who wants to take piano lessons

Colin is an amazing pianist, a great communicator, and an inspiring teacher. He was able to make the piano lessons into lessons that drew on my prior knowledge. When he taught me how to play songs, he asked me what songs I was interested in, and he taught me how to play songs. After teaching me a few songs that I already liked, he introduced me to a whole new world of classical music. I highly recommend Colin as a piano teacher.
