User "Frank a." was unable to convey the quantity and type of work items needed. This is a requirement for generating cost estimates. After asking the user for work-item quantities, "Frank a." ended the discussion, falsely marked the job as hired, and then left this review. After following up with Thumbtack personnel, it seems that Thumbtack corporate policy deems this as normal/encouraged behavior for users. Unfortunate. Ratings for service providers play a role in hiring, and ultimately, profitability. Users who lie about jobs getting hired, and leave useless drive-by reviews, should not be given the same voice as customers I've worked for and received money from, who were generous enough with their time afterward to leave me a review based on their real interactions with me. Thumbtack, Inc. should alter their policies in this regard. A review should not be based on a user's reaction to a handful of text questions regarding work-item quantities. At least, such reviews should not be given the same weight and influence as a review given after in-person interactions and verifiable completion of work.
