Want to take your beginner chess-loving student to the next level with fun, exciting instruction? Look no further. I offer beginner chess lessons filled with guided fun, affirmations, and impactful challenges. We will use some videos to aid in the understanding, as well as worksheets and puzzles. I've been playing chess for 20 years, and although I am no grandmaster, I am an intermediate level player, a former educator, and a master of the fundamentals. My rating peak was 1650 on chess.com. It is my goal to open the door to what chess is really about, teach some life lessons about perseverance and grit, and make your student love the game like I do. If you need someone to teach them how to be the next world champion, I am a great start, but I can't get them all the way. That said, if they are a beginner, or anywhere from 0 to 1100 ELO rating, I am your guy!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates start at 40$ per hour. For multiple students in the same session or booking multiple sessions in advance, there are discounts.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
On the first day, I get a feel for their level, and bring a few short lesson plans with me. As we book more sessions, I increase the level of the material I teach and the level of the puzzles they solve. It is a very intuitive process where the next sessions build on the previous sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
7+ years as an educator in schools and summer camps. Chess instructor for ChessWizards after school program in Austin.
