True healing is difficult and you need someone who truly has the expertise to unravel past patterns that may have been harmful to you or your spouse. Showed up late, not a good vibe. UPDATE: Read the response this counselor left for me. She immediately makes far reaching assumptions that I can't take feedback and that I'm not willing to "grow", which is insulting. Not only that, but she doesn't address why she was 10 minutes late to our meeting. This is the type of person you'll be dealing with if you hire her. I am so sorry that my comments were insulting & hurtful to you; it was definitely not my intention & I can’t possibly know whether you that statement is true of you since your review was anonymous. As a counselor, my purpose is to help you not to hurt or insult you. I realize that with the last sentence of my response, I made it personal, which again I should not have done. I had plans to change it since I do not know who you are. My intention was to make the general statement I did make but to change the last statement to read “It is a possibility that the client may have had an issue with hearing this but since she chose to remain anonymous I cannot know for sure. A second possibility is that we were simply not a good fit. That occasionally happens to every counselor & it is not a negative statement about the counselor or the client. Some people work better together than others. In those cases, we will help the client choose another counselor with skills similar to those they originally chose us for.” However, after writing the first statement but before sending it, I had to leave my computer for a couple of sessions. It was during the transition time between sessions that I decided to definitely change the comment I had written, making it less personal; but when I returned to my computer, I realized I had accidentally hit the “send button” before I could proofread what I had written, add the second statement, & remove the personal comment. Again, I am so sorry that you were offended by the statement, but I understand & admit I was wrong to make it personal in light of your anonymity & ask your forgiveness. I thought that the fact that growth & change are hard was simply a fact of life & would not have been offensive to anyone. I did not address the 10 min because I had addressed it but am glad to answer it; but thank you for bringing it up again. Session times are only 50 min not 60 min; and 80 min not 90 min. These session lengths were established by the insurance industry years ago & all counselors, even those who don’t take insurance, abide by those sessions lengths for standardization of care. The counselor is allowed 10 min out of each session length to transition between sessions, for taking brief notes & attending to personal needs. On the rare occasions that I am actually going to be late showing up at the office due to a doctor’s appointment running late or being stalled in Austin traffic, things over which I have no control, the client is contacted & notified of the events causing the late arrival & offered the option to reschedule or wait. The same courtesy is offered to my clients. If they are running late, for whatever reason, I move my transition period to the front of their session so they don’t lose any of their session time.
Kathryn really helped my husband and I to understand ourselves, each other, and to communicate effectively with each other. She helped us to recommit to making our marriage work. I could tell from the first meeting that Kathryn was genuinely interested in helping us. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?At this time, I do not accept insurance for payment; however, I am happy to provide a receipt suitable for use in pursuing reimbursement from your insurance company. Beginning January 2017 my rates will be: $95 for a 50 min individual sessions and $140 for 80 min couple's sessions. Individuals may also request an 80 min sessions.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?The client will respond to my quote on Thumbtack by indicating a desire to hire me or more typically clients are sent to me through referral from other professionals or satisfied clients and they call me for an appointment.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I have a certification in EMDR. I also have training as an Attachment Intervention Specialist. As a professional counselor I am continually in the process of availing myself continuing education classes, workshops & webinars too numerous to list here. Continuing Education is a way of life for a professional counselor who desires to serve the needs of their clients and to stay abreast of the growth in the field.
