Damion commands a knowledge of martial arts that transcends the individual techniques. He has a unique gift of understanding the energetic fields and can communicate his perceptions clearly. Working with Damion has stretched me to move beyond the mat and look into my own challenges in staying in relationship with others during any sort of conflict.

Damion Sensei has added great value to my martial arts practice by modeling and teaching mindful awareness. His teaching has helped me become more present in my body so that I can feel and respond to the energy from an attacker by blending with it instead of reacting to the perceived conflict. He is very good at seeing how a student’s physical response reflects their mental focus, and redirecting their awareness to a place of centeredness.

Damion is my Aikido Sensei at Techni One Martial Arts in Austin, Texas. He is an incredible instructor: knowledgeable, patient, accessible and perceptive. He has a keen eye and is able to guide students through ever-so-slight adjustments that lead to sound execution of the techniques/principles. Damion is an all around great guy with serious skills AND a sense of humor making class with him most enjoyable.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Teaching is the natural evolution of training and seeking the path to mastery.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The best choice advice I could give is to allow yourself to play with the art and see how you feel with the training after a few months. I knew the first hour of my Aikido training that I would train with it the rest of my life. But I felt the integration after a number of years and patience was key to the ultimate proress.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I am the founder of Yokido, a blend of Yoga and Aikido. Yoga heavily influences my teaching. While I'll teach by talking, most of what you'll learn from me will be kinesthetic, you will learn by doing and by feeling your way through it.
