Clement responded to my solicitation for flooring contractors. I had picked and ordered my own floating luxury vinyl wood look planks and pre-stained wood stair treads/risers/landing with the assistance of an interior designer and needed an installer. With a 4-5 person crew they were able to demo carpet/tile (under 900 sq ft), level the floor, install, and finish with caulk or quarter round as appropriate in about 15 hours (less than 2 full days). One or two focused on the stairs while the others worked on the floor. While I normally prefer using companies with more positive reviews (only one other here right now), I did see enough elsewhere online, and I liked his professionalism and responsiveness. We scheduled this about three weeks in advance and they picked up LVT for me from ProSource on the morning of the first day. Everything about the process was transparent and Clement answered a few questions I had along the way. I did seriously entertain two other installers for this job, both of whom were very highly rated online, one of which was also on thumbtack. The first, Cover Floors, who I exchanged a lot of email with, flaked out and stopped responding for reasons not clear, maybe because he preferred selling his own product. The other, very highly regarded on yelp, left me less than impressed due to ambiguity about small but important details like leveling and squeaks in the subfloor and gaps in the stairs. Clement addressed all those concerns and re-installed the toilet for a small fee (saving me time and trouble of doing it myself or hiring a plumber). The crew showed up on time each day and did their best to address a lot of fine details to give a complete look and were responsive to any questions or concerns raised. Of course, there is more painting to be done now, which is out of their scope. So if you want a total turnkey solution, you might want a full scope remodeling company who does multiple trades, but if you need or prefer a flooring specialist, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use them again if I bought a new house. Thank goodness I didn't attempt to DIY this job, because while installing LVT itself is not particularly difficult, the demo and proper prep and all the other details would have been very time consuming and probably 2x or more the total time due to inexperience. Getting the stair surfaces prepped and cut for wood (converting from carpet and hence rough wood underneath) took a lot of time and effort. One more thing I appreciated is the final walkthrough, even though we didn't have much to address. But it was clear he was interested in carefully reviewing all the work. I just spent a lot on exterior house painting and that PM didn't seem particularly interested in a thorough review. I had a lot of concerns about the floating vinyl, not ever having walked on such a floor before. They used 12 bags of leveling compound and the result is that nowhere does it seem like the floor bounces when walking on it, which I was expecting after reading vinyl reviews online. With an attached soft underlayment and rigid core, mine is quiet to walk on and offers noticeable "give" that is very different from walking on tile. I expect it was installed with sufficient expansion gaps everywhere--I'm sure I'll know by September. Even a high quality vinyl plank is not too expensive these days, so I recommend not being cheap to save a few bucks just to regret it later. Hopefully it will be durable, but that would be my problem and not Horizen's. I hope to add some detailed photos to the review later after painting is complete to show the quality of the work.

Details: Vinyl or linoleum • 751 - 1,000 sq ft • Carpet • No, but I plan to purchase the flooring • Residential
