Very responsive! We locked ourselves out of our house and called this company who answered right away with an honest price. Other companies priced too high or charged a service fee just to look with no refund. LGrateful for this company being in business.

I hired A1 Locksmith through Thumbtack after my key broke in my front-door lock. The technician did get me back into my home and completed additional lock replacement work.
My main concern was pricing. I was never told what it would cost to open the door. The only specific price I was given was $250 for the replacement lock. I was not told in advance about separate installation, woodworking, or other charges, nor was I given a total price before the work was completed.
The final charge was $1,050. The technician briefly showed me an invoice but did not provide me with a copy or receipt. This was especially disappointing because A1's Thumbtack profile states that customers receive clear pricing before work begins and approve the quote before work starts.
I acknowledge that I should have insisted on knowing the complete price beforehand. I was locked outside in over 100-degree heat with my two dogs and was focused on getting back inside. Had I known the total would be $1,050, I would have paid to have the door opened and obtained other estimates for the replacement work.
After I raised my concerns, I spoke with customer service and a manager. They agreed to refund $200, which I have now received, and I appreciate that they made that adjustment.
I am still waiting for the receipt/itemized invoice that was also promised, so I do not yet consider the matter fully resolved. I will update this review again once I receive and review it.
I have used Thumbtack for several projects and have generally had very positive experiences. This one was disappointing because of the lack of upfront pricing and transparency.
