Hello! I’m Susan Lindemann, a cello and piano teacher based in Tampa, Florida. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance from the University of South Florida and have been teaching professionally for three years. My journey has allowed me to work with wonderful students both locally and internationally. I’m passionate about bringing music into communities. In 2024, I joined the Collective Chamber Orchestra on a tour to Honduras, where I had the incredible opportunity to offer masterclasses to students in Tegucigalpa. Recently, I was honored to be invited as the principal cellist, soloist, and a guest faculty member for the 2025 Festival Internacional la Centro in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Here at home, I manage a studio of dedicated students throughout the Tampa Bay Area. In my teaching, I focus on helping each student develop their musicality, problem-solving strategies, and—most importantly—healthy cello technique. I adapt every lesson to the individual because I believe learning should feel motivating and inspiring. I truly think anyone can learn the cello if they’re willing to invest energy into the instrument. I work with students aged 5-75+ Building a healthy, sustainable technique is at the core of everything I do. The cello is an instrument that can beautifully adapt to the natural contours and movements of the human body, but improper technique can lead to tension or even injury. That’s why with new students, I work from day one to help them establish good habits that will let them play with joy and freedom for a lifetime.See more

How hard is it to learn to play the cello?

Taking cello lessons can be a rewarding experience for students young and old. The rich sound of the cello is well-loved in classical music and is found in all genres of contemporary music from modern folk to rock. As with any instrument, how hard it is to learn to play cello depends on the practice and dedication you put into it. It’s true that some people are naturally more adept at learning instruments than others, but with lessons and a daily commitment, you too can learn to play the cello.

Cello lessons can be a smart investment, especially for new players. Even professional cellists benefit greatly from ongoing training, but for those new to cello it’s especially important for forming a strong foundation for playing. From the proper posture to understanding finger positions, regular cello lessons give you a benchmark to measure your daily practice against. With a professional cello teacher guiding you, the sky’s the limit.
