Original post:
The response was quick. However, they wanted to charge $445 to $1500 to snake an outdoor line, which is about 5 times the going rate. Most companies charge less than $100. Google - many offer this service for this would have been fine except he dodged my question asking how much they charge. I would never have let them come out here if I knew they were charging more than if I bought the auger myself at Home Depot.
Update:
The comment about the $49 service fee from the owner is dishonest. I was aware of the $49 fee and had no issues with that. The technician tried to save my credit card number in his app for "future transactions" incidentally - fortunately, I caught that before the transaction went through. They were paid their agreed to visit fee of $49 - that was never in question, nor the source of my complaint. That said, there wasn't much "diagnosis" time spent.
I asked how much the actual drain snaking would cost, and THAT was the number that was dodged, and then was told it was $500-$1500. If I had known the starting cost was $500, I wouldn't have engaged the services. As mentioned, many, if not most companies offer this simple quick, 15-20 minute service for $60-$100.
How to improve (since Thumbtack is asking): please be honest and up front. If you charge an hourly rate, say that. If you want to charge $500 to snake a drain, that is your prerogative; however, it isn't your prerogative to dodge the question and then gaslight. You have a lot of positive reviews, so we'll chalk it up to an honest mistake, and, I have updated the review to average.

Rick was on time. Extremely professional, efficient and skilled at his work. He treated my home as his own by cleaning up afterward. He even offered and did provide to grout around my toilet....which was not expected! Thanks, Rick!

Had what we thought was a weird problem to diagnose. Our warranty sent a plumber that couldn't determine the problem. Days pass and we were still getting an intermittent sewer smell from our bathroom. Warranty company wouldn't send someone based on what they thought was an undiagnosable problem. So, I cast a net over Thumbtack and Rick from AAA responded quickly. He could be at my house same day at no charge to diagnose. He arrived promptly in the evening, determined the cause immediately, and gave a reasonable quote. It was fixed on the spot. Quick, courteous, clean, and personable every step of the way. Would recommend and use again!
