We were very impressed with Mike. Very friendly guy and fixed a problem succinctly where other handymen and plumbers couldn't. He showed up on time (or before time even), returned messages and had great customer service. We would definitely hire him again.

Jason and Brandon came to our rescue after our landlord's "ac service guy" had just done a semi annual maintenance call for our two roof top units at our business. Two days after the service call, we had units freezing up and temps up to 87 degrees inside the office. Maintenance ac company came back and now said " Oh you have a freon leak and it's going to be $3000 to fix it"! Phoned A Team Mechanical to come out and look at it. Amazingly, no freon leak, just a little low on freon and found the freon service caps had been left off! Additionally, they found the belts ready to break (we had just paid to have them replaced through the required ac service agreement with landlord). Service, freon, 3 hours checking everything out, new belts ordered and we have a/c working and only paid $300.00!!! These guys know their business and are trustworthy, honest, and professional! We can not say enough good! Please phone them first! You won't regret it! Thanks Jason and Brandon!!!!

My new go to AC guy! Shawn came out on a Sunday when most companies were charging $200+ dollars just to come out plus any services that needed to be done. His price was reasonable. He walked me through everything he was doing and let me know what was absolutely necessary to have my AC running again and what could wait to be fixed until a later date. He completed the work quickly and was very honest and forthcoming. We had a larger company out last year to service out AC and they came up with thousands of dollars of repairs that we needed. I much prefer hiring a family owned small business with ethics than a big box company who's just out to take your money.

I called around to some big name companies and I got the run around. My AC went out late on a Saturday night and no one else seemed to want to help. I got on thumbtack and these guys were the first to respond. They were here within 2 hours on a Sunday and had my AC fixed within 30 minutes of arriving. They didn't try to charge me any extra service fees like the other guys. It was a fair price for the job. I am very pleased with triangle mechanical and will use them in the future if I have to. I will refer them to everyone in need of AC repairs.

I had put in a bid for two new ac units in my house. I was flooded with bids from this site, and another site. Mondragon Mechanical was one of the bidders. They were not the lowest, but they were not the most expensive neither. Jorge came to my house, and met with my wife and me. We told him what we wanted, and he made some suggestions. Jorge said he could get it in one day, perfect! We liked the way Jorge explained everything to use. He simplified it for us to understand better on the features and energy efficiency, and how it would save us money. Jorge sounds like a man that knows his s@*t, and he does. He was very professional and respectful, of our home. He gave me a price after coming to inspect the project. We decided to choose his company to do the job. I called Jorge to let him know, that we wanted to hire him, and if he can be at my house the next day at seven am. He said yes, and arrived on time with his crew. They starting ripping out the old ac equipment, and installing the new ac. It was a bit larger, but the technicians were able to make it fit, without damaging anything. Jorge's crew were very respectful to us, and were very neat. It took a whole day to complete, but that is fine. We want the job done right, and it came out right. Jorge was onsite, made sure to check work, and made sure it was working. His technicians did an excellent job, and we are happy with our new AC. I would recommend Mondragon Mechanical to anyone that needs AC service or installation. I will also continue using them as our permanent AC service company for a long time to come.

Mike was the first to call immediately after I posted the project. He was very informative and knowledgeable about what was going on when I told him my issues with my AC. He was also very accommodating as I posted the project at night, he had a technician at my house at 8 am the next morning. After diagnosing the issue and informing me of all my options. Mike gave me an outstanding offer on a complete system replacement. I went with that and they removed my old unit and installed a brand new full HVAC system within hours of me deciding to get it, and had financing that I took advantage of that made the deal even sweeter. Great Service, Fast Service, High Quality..

We had our AC unit repaired by Cobb Heat and AC. The service was excellent, punctual, and professional. I received a very good explanation of what the issue and remedy would take and a reasonable rate to remedy the issue. Having an AC break as hot as it can still get, even in October in my neck of the woods, is certainly an issue you want resolved quickly. I appreciated the quick responses I received from everyone, which included the company I selected. My AC issue was fixed promptly and I will surely be glad to work with Cobb Heat and AC again should the need arise. Thank you!

I needed a complete new ac-heating system for my home and Juan and his company offered an acceptable quote for the job n timeline. The system was installed with a detailed explanation of work performed. The work was done within the proposed time and the quality-installation work was outstanding. He proposed several modifications and I was very please with the work on my cooling/heating system. I would highly recommend Juan and Norco Services for AC-Heating services.

Julio initially got the job because he was very knowledgeable, asked the right questions, and proposed "fixing" our A/C rather than replacing it. Another HVAC service recommended replacing it for the cost of 6K-11K, even though our system was relatively new. Julio diagnosed the problem differently and correctly, fixed the leak, and now our AC works perfectly. He saved us big time. He's also courteous and punctual and can think "out of the box" to save you from paying for another box.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
