Introduction: Fifteen years of guitar instruction (and a WHOLE lot more of playing!) - all ages, all styles, electric, acoustic. Reasonable rates, patient, knowledgeable and thorough. Lesson plans and practice schedules provided. I focus on a complete knowledge of the instrument, chords, scales, theory, and songs, but at the same time, customizing lessons to fit the individual student's goals. After getting the basics down, we will focus on what YOU want to play!! I love getting students excited about learning and playing! Playing an instrument is a lifelong endeavor - there's always more to learn and areas to improve upon. So many students have had fits and starts, not having a decent "road map" or a view of the "big picture" - even after months of lessons with other instructors. I feel it's my job to not only teach the "nuts and bolts", but also keep the student focused on their ultimate goals, not mine! My only goal is to help you become the BEST guitarist you can be and develop a love for playing!! Whatever your goals are - fun with family and friends, performance, composition or whatever, I believe that with my help, you can achieve them!!

Guitar Lessons

I am a self taught guitarist and I’ve played guitar for a very long time. I got stuck in a serious rut in terms both creativity and improving my skills. Working with Dennis has been great and has really opened my eyes to what I had been doing wrong all of these years. I highly recommend, if you’re looking for lessons, reaching out to Dennis. I could not be happier with the progress so far!

Guitar Lessons

Had done a fantastic job teaching a beginner guitar. Lessons go longer than advertised and he truly loves his craft. It shows. Highly recommend.

Guitar Lessons

Excellent first lesson with Dennis. I played guitar for many years and then drifted away from it. Dennis had a well constructed written lesson plan that was perfectly suited for my reimmersion - a blend of theory and practice. Anyone considering working with Dennis should know that he is an outstanding player and teacher. If you are a beginner, a returning player, or an advanced player, Dennis has the skill set to help you improve and reach your goals.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing system is the same for all students - the only difference will be if I have to travel to your home, there may be a travel upcharge.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

With most students, I begin with the basics - parts of the guitar, scale up the neck, how the guitar works, etc. I then move in to posture, proper ergonomics, and rhythm exercises. From then, we move into first position chords - majors, minors and sevenths Gotta know these frontwards, backwards, and in your sleep! Pentatonic scales are next, followed by barre chords, scales, and then more advanced techniques. Along the way, music theory is being "sprinkled in" and, as you learn certain chords and scales, you'll learn songs that will help you apply what you're learning!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Like most of my students, I really don't have any formal musical training. I've jammed forever and played in a number of bands around the Metroplex. I've learned much of what I know the hard way and had to break some bad habits along the way, but that's to YOUR advantage because I'll make sure you don't develop these bad habits!!
