The two gentlemen, Nichi and Jack, were very pleasant, very efficient, and made moving a much better experience that I have had with moving several times in the past. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone moving in the area where Cordobe provides services. They were on time, worked carefully and diligently, asking questions to make certain they took care of my things. They also explained what they were going to do, in sequence, and why, and this was extremely helpful to me. The loading, moving, and unloading from Fort Worth to Plano took less than 5 hours. The move was very cost-effective (and less than I was expecting), and all of my items arrived in excellent shape. I could not have had a better moving experience. Thank you so very much!

Blue Mule Movers did an amazing job of moving me across the city. They were happy to help and did not nickel and dime me as Movers sometimes try to do. They came in considerably cheaper than other options. They did an amazing job! Very pleased with their service!

I recently moved from out of state and had a different company unload everything from a 3 bedroom house into a storage unit. The unloading company was not careful with my stuff and did a poor job of stacking it in the storage unit, so after I bought a house, I hired Castle Movers to move everything from the storage unit to my house. They suggested two trucks and four movers which turned out to be a very good recommendation. They called to confirm the time and called again on the day of the move when there was heavy rain in the forecast. I gave them the wrong address by mistake but they called and got it figured out. The movers were very friendly and did everything I asked and expected of them. They were very careful will all of my belongings, especially furniture and a grandfather clock. All four guys worked hard and got the entire move done just before the heavy rain started. I highly recommend Castle Movers!

We have hired Elite movers twice in the last year. Although I don't plan on moving again any time soon, if I did, I would certainly call them again. I was beyond pleased with Thomas and Elite movers. The crew is amazing---efficient would be putting it mildly. They completed our last move in 4 hours, start to finish and that included unloading a storage unit. Each crew member is so nice....it rained during our last move and they showed extreme care with both our belongings and our home. I am so grateful for Thomas, Chris, and the rest of Elite movers. Thank you so much for all your help.

We could not have had a better experience than with A to Z Moving. Found via Thumbtack, was impressed at the ease of booking, that the loaders were prompt and then exceeded our expectations in wrapping furniture and meticulously packing the truck for the long drive out of state. Many thanks to Ray, Ray and Gerome of A to Z and happy to report that all went well with the unloading and unpacking, everything got there in great shape. Thanks again for such great service.

Elijah and Samuel were awesome! They got everything moved from one second-floor apartment with no elevator to another in under two hours, checked that everything arrived okay and was in the room I wanted, and didn't make me feel bad about the disastrous state of my old place (and we're friendly to my dog, which is always a plus!). This was the first time I've had professional help with a move and it was a great experience. I dont plan on moving again for a long time, but I'll be calling Red Carpet Moving again when I do!

I called Special Ops Moving Company the same day I had to move out of my old place to a new one because the company I originally hired cancelled on me that day after noon. Not only was Special Ops transparent with the price, clear with the process & responsive they were reasonably priced and the movers were friendly. They made a high stress & bad situation manageable and pleasureable.

They were able to schedule me for a same day move. They were running late, but they did reach out to let me know. Everything they could move, they did. It took the whole 3 hours I reserved (with 3 guys), but I have A LOT of stuff. There is no way I could have moved all my things without hiring them. I was on a serious time restraint. The payment app is the only thing I didn't like. My bankcard didn't like it either. I eventually got them cash and all was good. I would use them again for a local move.

I would recommend, without hesitation, the moving services of D&J Transportation Services. My service needs were complex and involved multiple components, including the coordination of out-of-town transport and local delivery to two different destinations. The professionalism and expertise of D&J Transportation Services made what could have easily become a frustrating experience one that was, instead, AS EASY AS BREATHING! My next moving services requirement will likely involve an out-of-state relocation. Who do you wager I will call to provide for this major moving project? You' e got it: D&J Transportation Services!!

I want to recommend Dallas moving to anyone who has to move out of state. They moved me from Lewisville TX to Los Angeles CA. The process of setting up the move was friendly and reassuring, Olivia was patient and went over all the information I needed to feel comfortable. The crew on move day was on time within the window of arrival Olivia set up for me. They were all dressed in blue uniforms and looked very professional. They wrapped up my stuff as if I was moving super expensive furniture (even though it's not) I feel like the crew that came really went above and beyond to make me happy with the service. It's not everyday you really feel like you get your money's worth and moving is not cheap but their service is definitely worth the cost. The truck was loaded really carefully. They were very equipped with tools to break down the bed and tables. Very highly recommended. Thank you for a great job!

This company was quick to respond and made it easy for me to hire them. My cross country moving company couldn't get the sofa thru the front door, scraped up an inner wall trying, then just left it on the outside landing at my apts! Youngstars Moving came to the rescue and had it inside in just under 5 min.

Highly highly recommend Smith’s Moving & Delivery. Both LaDavious and Terrance were professional, kind and efficient. I have moved 11 times over the past 5 years and these are BY FAR the most excellent movers I have ever had the pleasure of an experience with. Nothing was broken, messed up or even scratched. They got all of my large furniture pieces and about 15 heavy big boxes down 6 floors at one apartment and up 8 floors at another with no trouble whatsoever and they never once complained or refused to move anything (which believe it or not has happened multiple times with other moving companies). As long as they are around, they are who will be moving me in the DFW area. Use them, you will not regret it!

I loved this move! Let me start off by saying I love that this company is 24/7! It was hard to find someone that would be able to work around my schedule for work and different things I had to do but Universal Movers was able to do it last minute AND for a great price. CJ and Brian did my move and they were nothing but amazing. I had more items in my storage unit than I thought and it was a long walk on the third floor but they had great attitudes about it the entire time. CJ had a great system for moving all of my things out of the storage unit and they both got everything into the truck and into my apartment (which was also on the third floor) in a timely manner. I'm definitely coming back to this company whenever I need my stuff moved out!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
