- What types of customers have you worked with?
I help students complete homework, and provide a thorough explanation of concepts. Typically, I allow the student to drive what is covered during the session as opposed to preparing a "lesson". That way, students can try to work out problems on their own and figure out what exactly they need help with. In addition to help with coursework, I also provide standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, and GRE math). My methodology to help students is the same, although I do spend some time covering some basic test-taking strategies.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1. Keep in mind that you pay for what you get. If a tutor is only charging $10/hour, he/she is probably only worth that much. I feel that my experience as a tutor and public school teacher adds significant value, which is why my rate is what it is. 2. I highly recommend setting up weekly tutoring sessions and keeping those appointments whether the student has homework that week or not. If there's no homework, the time can be spent reviewing topics that weren't fully mastered before, or trying to get ahead. Math is a lot like lifting weights - use it or lose it!
