I am very glad we used Clipper's. They were able to take up our last minute request and were extremely responsive. They removed a large pile of concrete from a walkway we demo'd and did so efficiently and needed no direction. Would hire again. Thank you!

Angel did an excellent job on several different projects for us (repairing damaged hard wood floors; repairing crack in concrete wall in sunroom; hanging extremely heavy medicine cabinet). And he worked on New Years Day to get the job done! He was professional, courteous and punctual. I highly recommend Angel.

Jon did a great job! I had him install curtain rods for 6 different sizes of windows. He was very thorough and precise in his work. I also had him put up a wall hanging that required a two story ladder to do it. Everything turned out perfect. I will definitely use Jon again.

Mario may be one of the best contractors I've worked with. I took 3 quotes to repair water damage to my wall, including king stud supports... I wasn't happy either of the first two quotes, then contacted Mario. He showed up exactly when he said he would, quoted me a fair price for the job, then went straight to work! He was done with the entire job within the day, and it looks excellent! I've worked with a ton of contractors over the last 5 years, and there are few I would rate this highly. I will be calling Mario for pretty much everything I need from now on!

I hired Ruben to hang a 6ft mirror on the wall in my living room. I called him early in the morning and he was at my house shortly thereafter! Very fast same day service. He got my mirror up perfectly in no time, and even mounted another mirror while he was there and put together a piece of office furniture (which I had lost the directions too). In spite of the latter two things not being what he was initially hired to do, he was kind enough to let me add on the other two jobs which helped me out. Ruben gives prompt, professional service and does excellent work! His prices were very reasonable. I look forward to having him work on some other home projects that I have coming up. Highly recommend!

Okay so the job I asked for was admittedly simplified, but when Bill and Tony showed up they immediately sized up the job and began work immediately. They removed the existing cabinets and placed them in my garage for later use. Then they installed the new light fixtures, patched and painted the wall and installed the new cabinets. I was impressed at this point, but when the Master Electrician came to inspect the electrical work, I was amazed! My wife is so happy with the work that I have been given permission to hire Fixed again to install the old cabinets in my garage! Stay tuned, guys! And great touch with the door mat and shoe covers! That was the icing on the cake for my wife! Thank again!

Manuel and his team did such an amazing job on my daughters nursery ceiling and walls! The walls and ceiling are absolutely perfect, and as an interior designer by trade, I have high standards. My husband and I are hoping to build a home this fall and plan to contact Manuel again for all the drywall in the new house. Not only is the finished quality top notch, but they also took precautions to make sure the room was taped off to reduce dust from getting all over the rest of the house. Highly recommend.

Sonny was communicative and professional with my wife while she explained what we needed done to the house and even added a few extra things. Sonny worked on the various issues over the course of the day. Overall, I would say Sonny needs to focus on getting clean lines with the caulk and improving his final fit and finish. He came back on another day to clean up some caulk he had gotten on the brick and to sand some trim repairs, but Sonny was easy to work with, polite, and punctual and most of his repairs needed no extra attention.

Love, Love, Love my home now that it's been transformed by the fabulous colors painted and crown molding trim work. Mario and his crew did an amazing job from holding by hand doing the color selection to modifying a color that I didn't like once it was on the wall. His guidance, professionalism and expertise was truly a Blessing! Thank you Mario and crew:) Sharon

Joe at Drywall Specialties is great. He is very professional and achieves this by being very responsive, communicative, punctual and knowledgeable (he has decades of experience). He happily receives feedback and will make corrections if needed. Joe responded to my texts quickly, adapted to last minute changes I made, was punctual every day and provided me with lots of information about the job. He stuck to his estimate and did extras without charge. I am happy with the work-popcorn scraping, ceiling floating, door installation and new drywall/walls.

Lance remodeled our staircase. From a carpet staircase with half-walls, we knocked down the half-walls and upgraded to a hardwood staircase with metal balusters. The job required the demo of the existing stairs and carpet, dry wall remodeling and painting, staining and finishing of the new hardwood treads, risers and handrails, installing the treads, risers, balusters, handrails and the new trims. It is a complex job and Lance finished it in the most professional way possible. The final product met or exceeded our expectations. He is a skilled and intelligent worker. If he is faced with a new challenge, he starts by researching it and comes up with a solid solution. I liked the fact that, unlike many contractors that I had to deal with, his working day always started early (like 8:30AM or so) and always kept us informed in advance about his next day schedule. His quote was very reasonable, easy to read and understand. He kept a clean workspace inside the house and did all the painting, staining and finishing outside, such that there was no smell in the house. I really appreciated this, because all other contractors that bid for this same job, could not provide a smell free environment and asked to do the staining and finishing inside the house. He is a very reasonable and trustworthy person, accommodating our gap in schedule (we had to leave town for almost four weeks) and our proposed payment schedule. I’m recommending him without any reservation. I’d hire him again for any other job I‘d have. Thank you, Lance!

Eduardo is very good. When he was finished with my wall I painted it myself and now you cannot tell there was ever a hole in the wall even looking directly in the area.

I had contacted BR Brothers to wall mount a brand new 60" TV, set up a piece of furniture to hold my sound system, and conceal all of the wiring that came along with it. Not only were these guys friendly but also very eager to accommodate all of my detailed requests, they had all of the required tools and completed the task quickly! I will definitely be using BR Brothers again!!

Osman and team are very professional and timely. I was amazed at the speed in which they painted half of our home and 10', 12' and 20' walls but maintained clean lines and quality. All in two days which would have taken my spouse and I several weekends. We will hire Realta Construction again for the remainder of our home.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
