Ashu S. says, "I already had Govee Elite permanent outdoor lights at the front side of the home(spanning some what 1/3rd on the front left and right). Had slightly different variant of Govee permanent outdoor lights which i decided to get it installed at the back side also. Most of the planning I need to do as AAA initial plan of using an adapter to connect(both of them) was not going to work but yes using the same Govee app worked. Installation was okay except few surprises like Govee supplied square brackets were not used in every LED(alternate LED it was used even after supplying different set of self drilling screws from Home Depot). I really wanted this and made it super clear - as DFW we face strong winds. Secondly Y splitter was used but I was not aware that I will be charged separately for it. It costs anywhere between $4.xx to $18 but I was charged $25. Controller and timer is outside - we discussed to put it inside junction box but it didn't arrive due to preponing of the appointment. So now this junction box installation has to be done by me - I will do that. Son also told that leftovers were pickup by him only. Otherwise AAA had the most value quote and earliest availability among all the vendors. This way it is good experience. Overall my word of advise to future customer, please clarify all the charges up front before the installation."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

It will likely cost between $200 and $400 to hire someone to hang your Christmas lights and holiday decorations. For an accurate cost estimate, ask installers near you to give you a price quote. Let them know if you need them to supply the lights, how many you want to hang and other details about this project.

There’s no set rule of when you should or shouldn’t hang your Christmas lights. Some homeowners wait until after Halloween or Thanksgiving. Others may choose to hang them a few weeks before Christmas or at the beginning of December.

If you want to hang up Christmas lights (or other holiday light fixtures) outdoors, you’ll need the following:

  • Christmas and holiday lights
  • Extension cords
  • Gloves
  • Gutter clips
  • Ladder
  • Power stakes
  • Tape measure

Instead of hanging the Christmas lights yourself, you can hire a professional installer to take care of this project for you.

The best way to hang Christmas lights on your house is to use some type of light clip (sometimes called gutter clips). To help ensure your safety, however, consider hiring a professional installer who has experience with hanging Christmas lights, handling electrical cords and using ladders.

You’ll need to measure your house to figure out how many Christmas lights you need. Some homeowners may want to start with 60 feet of lights — or 200 feet. You can take the guesswork out of it by hiring a professional installer or handy person to help you measure and install your lights.

How much you tip an installer who hangs your Christmas and holiday lighting is up to your discretion. Some people prefer to tip about 20% for services, while others may choose to tip anywhere from $20-$50. It’s up to you how much you choose to tip.
