FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We start with a quick message or call to talk through what you're picturing: the occasion, location, and any specific shots you want. I confirm a package and date, deliver the contract for you to sign, then show up and shoot. After the session, I personally cull and edit every image and deliver the photos via an online gallery, usually within a week.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I taught photojournalism and served as yearbook adviser for two years within a five-year teaching career, and I hold a Master's in Social Science Education. That background is where I actually learned composition, storytelling through images, and how to direct people who feel awkward in front of a camera.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Photography started as part of my journalism teaching. I was showing students how to shoot for the yearbook and realized I loved it more than I expected. I started shooting professionally as Jess M. Portraits in 2024 and haven't stopped since.
