About
I taught photojournalism and served as yearbook adviser for two years, so I don't just take technically good photos, I know how to find the real moment worth capturing, especially with people who feel awkward in front of a camera. I edit every single image myself, so what you get is a finished, polished gallery, not a raw dump of files. I'm responsive and easy to work with, and I'll have a package and price to you fast so you're not waiting around to plan your shoot.

Jess was a joy to work with. She was great at communicating throughout the booking process and showed up on time and ready to work. She is very kind and makes you feel comfortable. She even helped our team when we had an issue with another hired vendor who showed up late and we were scrambling to set up for our team-building event. She is truly a professional. She sent the photos the next day as well! These were candid, not staged photos and I was glad to have her there to capture our corporate team building event. I would definitely recommend her and hope to hire her next for a family photo shoot.

Jess M. Portraits was a five-star experience from start to finish. Jess made us feel comfortable in front of the camera, gave helpful direction without making anything feel stiff, and captured photos that feel genuine to us. The finished portraits are beautiful, and Im so glad we chose her. If youre looking for a Houston portrait photographer for family photos, couples portraits, or professional headshots, I highly recommend Jess.

FAQs
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We start with a quick message or call to talk through what you're picturing: the occasion, location, and any specific shots you want. I confirm a package and date, deliver the contract for you to sign, then show up and shoot. After the session, I personally cull and edit every image and deliver the photos via an online gallery, usually within a week.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I taught photojournalism and served as yearbook adviser for two years within a five-year teaching career, and I hold a Master's in Social Science Education. That background is where I actually learned composition, storytelling through images, and how to direct people who feel awkward in front of a camera.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Photography started as part of my journalism teaching. I was showing students how to shoot for the yearbook and realized I loved it more than I expected. I started shooting professionally as Jess M. Portraits in 2024 and haven't stopped since.
