For over 20 years in Houston, I’ve taught pre-college, collegiate, and adult singers, using Meisner acting principles, performance psychology, and expert technique to guide authentic impulse, playful exploration, and risk-taking. When singers relax and realize their worth isn’t tied to performance, refined vocal shaping can transform them, like a sculptor working with responsive clay. My students have won Metropolitan Opera Laffont awards, NATS competitions, and earned admission and scholarships to Curtis Institute, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, UT Austin, and UNT. Private lesson rates: $90 (45 minutes) | $120 (60 minutes). In-person in Houston or online.

I started lessons with Dr. Bruton for multiple reasons. I had specific things I wanted to work on vocally as well as help alleviate some vocal pain that I was enduring. Lessons with him have helped on all accounts. It's very enjoyable and encouraging to work with Dr Bruton. Practicing is definitely the way to go and he offers really good instruction with helpful techniques. I should also mention that I received a bachelor's in voice performance years ago and believe that his teaching methods have been the most valuable.

Vocal lessons with Dr. Bruton have not only shaped my career as a vocalist, but as an artist entirely. Dr. Bruton's lessons are filled with care, concern, and step-by-step methods to help you get out of your head and to feel more free while you're performing by not making it feel like a "performance". His lessons have helped me to see the beauty, work, and effort that has had to go into every piece he assigned to me. This has helped me as an artist exponentially, to realize that there's effort and beauty in just about all art around us. My son took voice lessons with Mr Bruton for several years.We were very satisfied with his patience and expertise.It greatly improved my son's confidence.He was able to target his weaknesses. Excellent Voice Teacher - highly recommended. Hes like a therapist and vocal teacher at the same time. Zach will listen to your issues regarding singing or life in general and whats holding you back, dig down to the root and build exercises around it that may seem silly at first but will transform your singing and confidence towards your goals over time. He focuses in Opera (classical) singing but again will use his teaching towards your goals in any genres. Definitely recommend

Zachary has a great way of explaining/ teaching how to sing. I never felt judged or uncomfortable in my lesson, and anything that needed improvement, he explained: what I should be doing/ how to do it. Singing is a mental and physical skill; before my lesson with Zachary, I had a little skill of both but after my lesson I learned to trust myself and it helped unlock a new level of singing for me. Not a lot of singing teachers are good explainers, but Zachary is. Hes definitely worth a try if youre shopping around for a good teacher.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In our first lesson, I will vocalize the student to determine the range, voice type, and how well the student can hear pitch. From there we begin to design a program together, based on the student's needs, goals, and musical/stylistic preferences.
