DJ was great. He has a super easy app where you add all songs and announcements and he followed them to the tee. Basically kept us on track through the whole wedding. He set up outdoors, then moved to indoors, was extremely professional and enjoyable to have at the wedding.

DJ Abner and his wife were amazing. They were huge part of my 50th birthday celebration success! Everyone had so much fun with Photo Booth and the dance floor was never empty. DJ Abner is very fun, cool, chill, and very easy to work with – he is truly the Party Mixer! We hired DJ Abner during our wedding on October 05, 2024, as our DJ, MC, and for his photobooth (managed by his wife along with him). We interviewed 7 other DJs. We had a small wedding with less than 50 guests in one location at Rose Haven. He uses a Vibo App, which allows you to add and remove your songs and timeline for the event. We had a tight timeline, where we had the venue only from 3 pm-9 pm. Pros: His service is very affordable and you can also add a Photobooth for an additional cost. He worked with our budget. We also chose him because he has experience DJ’ing for Filipino-American crowds. My husband and I are both Filipino (my husband from the Philippines and I was born in America). We wanted a DJ who could cater to the crowd by keeping everyone on the dance floor. He also comes highly recommended from other Filipino DJs. During our wedding, he did an excellent job of playing most of the songs we requested him to play through the Vibo app. He served our audience well. We hired him for 4 hours for both our ceremony and reception. He went above and beyond by playing the last song for my husband & I to dance to – Forevermore by Side A. The time was up and we ran behind after the allotted time. We appreciate having that moment after the main dancing part ended. We wanted him to come to our venue on September 19 since he has never done DJing at Rose Haven before. He agreed to attend when we asked him 2.5 months prior in July. When we confirmed a few days before if he was attending, he was unable to come. He instead came to our Rehearsal on October 04, 2024, where we clarified our vision with him. We appreciated getting to practice most of the songs for the ceremony with our wedding party. (*The following things were not as noticeable to guests as they were to us since we planned a majority of our wedding.) *Cons: During the wedding planning stage, since he wanted us to use the Vibo App, he just wanted us to rely on it for communication – he rarely answered his texts. He would mostly answer through calls. We also hired a “day of coordinator” who was working with our DJ. (Please see our review for Hana Gross posted on other websites). There was miscommunication between them. The following things were not clarified between DJ Abner, her, and us. These events impacted our timeline during the ceremony and reception. During the wedding ceremony, we wanted a specific worship song before my husband and I ended the ceremony. Despite practicing the day before at the Rehearsal, we unfortunately had “dead time”, where we waited for 3-5 minutes for the song to play. Our ceremony was outside, and our guests had to wait in the hot sun. Luckily, the sun was setting. During the reception, as the MC, he did not call the table by numbers as we originally planned for. He instead called them by proximity to his DJ table, which caused our main wedding entourage to eat last. Lastly, he allowed one of our guests to perform a surprise singing performance with multiple songs. Although it is very sweet, it was not part of our timeline. My husband and I really wanted to dance with our guests. Because of the delays, we had a shortened open floor dance time. Overall: We were able to call DJ Abner after the wedding and discussed our disappointments with the dead time and delayed timeline. He was apologetic, and stated he did not receive clear directions from Hana Gross. Because of this openness, we recommend choosing him as your DJ. He’s willing to listen to your feedback. I recommend setting up a meeting with him to talk about the timeline and expectations as a MC, especially if you have a tight timeline. UPDATES: We want to clarify why we gave a 4-star rating across the board instead of 5-stars. Our posted review was written with honesty and respect, aiming to help future couples and coordinators in similar situations. Since we planned the wedding ourselves—without a wedding planner and with Hana serving only as a day-of coordinator—we evaluated everything holistically, from the time we hired you to the wedding day itself. Here are the key reasons for our rating: Ceremony Timing & Communication Our concern was not about dead time during the rehearsal lunch but specifically on the wedding day. There was an unexpected pause in the ceremony, which left our groomsmen standing in the sun and caused some confusion among guests. While we could have emphasized the inclusion of the worship song between the ceremony and the entourage’s exit, this detail was clearly listed in the Vibo App, which you mentioned was your guide for the wedding workflow. Delayed Communication About Props & Photobooth Background On July 22 and multiple times afterward, we asked for pictures of the props and photo booth backgrounds you had available. Your delayed response resulted in us having to purchase a background ourselves. Had we received the information earlier, we would have bought the background at the time of booking on July 9 instead of September 2, avoiding last-minute changes. Missed Venue Tour & Rehearsal Attendance On September 18, we scheduled a meeting because you were unable to attend the venue tour with other vendors. While we understand that you had another gig on September 19 and needed to prioritize your business, we were disappointed because you had “promised” two months prior that you would attend. We chose to set aside our feelings about this and appreciated that you instead committed to attending the rehearsal lunch, which you did. You mentioned that this was not typical for you, and we acknowledged that by giving you a tip for the long drive. Communication Concerns on September 18 During a phone call on September 18, when we provided feedback about communication issues, we felt uncomfortable when you said, “If you feel that I am not the right DJ for you…” This felt dismissive, especially since we had already chosen you over other DJs with similar or greater experience at a lower cost. Dismissal of Timeline Discussion On the same day, we tried to go over the wedding timeline in detail, but you repeatedly responded with, “That’s too easy.” This made us feel that our concerns were being brushed aside and gave us the impression that you were fully confident in understanding the tight timeline. Reception Announcements During the reception, we asked Hana to relay our request for you to announce the wedding favors and Venmo fund signs multiple times. However, the announcements were not made frequently enough for guests to take notice. As a suggestion, we recommend asking couples in advance which announcements are essential so they are not overlooked during the reception. Unplanned Performance During the Reception One of the biggest disappointments was an unplanned performance during the reception that was never approved by us. While this may not have been entirely your fault, it should have required our direct approval beforehand. To this day, it still saddens us that it happened. We believe our review was fair and balanced, considering the time and effort we spent meticulously planning our October 5 wedding over four months. We hope this clarifies our perspective.
