Shady is the best word to describe this outfit. On Day 1 with a 50% down payment in hand, they removed the old fence and left it in the yard. They returned the following day to place the metal posts. Of course, they installed the metal posts by using a pole driver and then apparently just put powder cement over the holes. If that isn't bad enough, the metal posts were uneven and not even the required depth in the ground. Also, the metal posts were not evenly spaced and no posts were installed at the fence corners. In addition, the cedar pickets were dog ear pickets, which is a cheaper alternative to the flat edge ones and are not supposed to be used when installing a trim board. Next up, when installing the railings late in the day and in the dark, Dustin claimed that they were "inset cedar." I hope he meant incense cedar. Regardless, on Day 3, when he returned to install the incorrect pickets, he was again told that the white boards with S-P-F (Spruce, Pine, Cedar) markings were most certainly not a cedar material, he removed the railings and agreed to replace those with cedar, as was agreed upon before work commenced. I should mention that on the night of Day 2, his "partner in crime" verbally assaulted my neighbor who informed him that the railings were pine. Day 3 wore on, and despite many calls, emails and texts, Dustin was a no show. He claimed that the lumber companies would not be open until Monday. I suspect that he really meant that the lumber companies that allow him to purchase on credit were closed. On Day 4, which was a Sunday, we called a new fence company that has been wonderful. Dustin pocketed my down payment and walked off the job. My advice to all: DON'T CALL A-1 Texas Construction. Unprofessional amateurs who will take your money and build on the cheap.
A-1 Texas Construction's reply
this is so not fair, I upgraded this guy's fence from 2x3x8s and spent twice as much money on 2x4x16s because it was easier to build using this longer material, his neighbor whom I assume was from Houston where they have hurricane wind codes on there fences brought up that u can't use rails spanning across two three post "which is true in hurricane areas" not the case in McKinney, and got the customer all bent out of shape believing it would not pass his hoa code, so after I set all the post and put up the rails he requested I take it all down and start over, I used a post driver to slam the post a ft deeper than the holes were dug so they would stay in place until the concrete set, we did not add water and were not planning to add water until the rails were up incase we needed to move any around. I also took the $900 he gave me to pay for all the post all the rails and all the pickets, plus a dump fee. In total I spent $1,100 at the point we were at, the $900 he gave me and $200 of my own money, not to mention the value of the labor for setting the post and tearing out the fence. We left for the day after he asked us to take everything down and restart with 2x3x8s rails. So the next day was Easter Sunday as I am eating lunch with my family I start getting redictulas text from this man saying if I am not there in 30 minutes I am fired, so I was willing to loose the $200 I soent and labor I already did between digging post holes and hauling off old fence to spend the day with my family. He threatend to sue me for $1700 because he wanted all the money I spent on materials which were used by the contractor he hired the next day plus the difference in cost the company charged him, I told him good luck with that I guess I'll see you in court. Also A-1 Texas is the parent company of a few other fence companies in the area such as Frisco txt fence and roof allen tx fence and roof and ASAP fence company, he hired one of our other companies to pick up where we left off, and as mentioned he was super satisfied with the service, he just had a problem with me because I didn't jump at his command to come finish the fence on Easter Sunday. His neighbor was also drunk as a skunk and very rude and yes my employee did get into a verbal argument with the neighbor, and that employee is no longer with the company....we have done over 6,000 fences and have 8 franchise companies in the area, of all those jobs I have 5 complaints. You can't satisfy everyone, but if you look at my reviews on google you will see we have a lot more happy customers than upset ones, we were also voted best small business in McKinney in 2014 and 2016, if you just let us do our job and let me know any issues you have with the fence when it's complete I promise you will end up a happy customer. We are also the lowest priced company in McKinney, we are not Cisco fence nor claim to be, this is a standard fence company building fences to replace the builder grade fence at a fair price. If your looking for a fancy fence we may not be the company for you, if you want a nice fence that will last 20 years at a fair price give us a call

We had A-1 replace our original cheap builder installed picket fence that was falling apart with a 260' board on board cedar metal post stained fence. They provided a ballpark estimate for removal of my old fence, installation and stain of the new fence over the phone. They came out and walked the job the same day and the quote remained the same as the phone estimate which was several hundred dollars less than the other estimates I received. They were also friendly and easy to work with so I felt comfortable with their crew working at my home. This is very important to me and my family. The installation went smoothly with the exception of two rain delays which would have pushed the job through the weekend if they hadn't worked until dusk on Friday and finished the job Saturday afternoon. Overall I am very pleased with the new fence installation and the service that A-1 provided especially considering the price I paid for the fence which included a four year warranty. Great service and a quick turn around
