We hired Mrs. Kavitha Mathew as our lawyer and helped us through my greencard application. I had a J-1 visa before I applied for adjustment of status. Along the way, we had a problem with securing a waiver. We didn't expect that my case was gonna be that hard. We looked for immigration lawyers around and they sounded like my case was hopeless until we met Mrs Mathew through this website. We called her and set an appointment with her. The first time we talked to her, she gave us hope and assurance about the case. That's what we wanted to hear from a lawyer, who will listen and be emphatic to what we were going through. That same day we hired her and that's one of the best decisions we ever made. We started applying for the waiver and she guided us through the step by step process. She was so accessible through the whole process, very professional and knowledgeable about the immigration matters. After waiting for the result of my application, I finally got it. I have now a greencard and no worries at all about my legal stay here in the US. This would not happen without Mrs. Mathew's help. I am writing this review to spread out to the online inquirers that she has done an excellent job with my case and maybe in the future she can help you with yours. She has been an amazing immigration lawyer.

Christie helped me with every aspect of my child custody modification case. As a male trying to get primary I thought it would be nearly impossible. Christie took all the facts and was able to get a hearing set as well as temporary orders put in place. She ultimately worked to have everything settled without a hearing. I have worked with a lawyer in the past through a divorce and I would most definitely say she was more reasonable and was eager to help me with any concerns with my case and did a great job of getting back to me when I had questions. Thanks Christie

Avia and Felicia were on point! Loved how easy and flexible they were and helped me close a difficult chapter for me. Now I can move on to the next chapter in life with confidence. Thank you for facilitating the process and explaining everything with detail. Felt confident the first day I met with Avia. I thought it was going to be a dreadful experience like previous lawyers, but on the contrary she took her time to explain the process and answered every question I had. Thank you! Thank you so much!

I just want to say that Rick Cohen might be one of the most down to earth attorneys I have meet, he explained everything in great detail, he was understanding to my problem he went over step by step what I needed to do and why even before I hired him. I found myself in a difficult situation and Rick made me feel at ease and comforting. Thank you Rick I will defiantly refer others to you. Have a blessed day

I'll begin my review by stating the following: We won a settlement. Dan Estrada helped me achieve 99% more than their initial pittance offer (I did not make this number up, I actually whipped out a calculator to get the total percentage). With Estrada's help, the uphill battle became much more manageable. He kept me sane, and kept me on track on how to present my case. He also gave me realistic answers - he didn't mince with words and gave me the real facts of what we were facing, what we would have to prepare, best and worst case scenarios. And a definite plus on his part, he also kept me from going way off the OCD charts by keeping me focused on what to prepare and what to leave on the backburner. I spoke with several recommended lawyers from friends, associates and coworkers, and yet none of them were willing to take this case due to the difficulty. Estrada decided to take it on, and considered it a challenge. In the end, after several months of back and forth between us and the insurance lawyers, we came to a settlement with 100% of the policy limits to be paid towards my damages. I would highly recommend Dan Estrada's services to any friends and family who may find themselves in need of legal help. I'm certainly glad I did.

I was under incitement for three counts of Federal crimes. I was arrested, thrown in jail, and scared. I was facing serious time. I did what you’re doing. I started searching for a lawyer. It seems most have good reviews. But when you’re looking at Federal prison time, a lot of it. One is concerned if the reviews are true. Should I put my life in this lawyers hands? Jeff King reviewed my case and determined he could help. And help he did!! When the prosecutor attempted to intimidate me, the US Marine came out of Jeff. It seems the Counselor isn’t afraid of a fight ! After 18 months of back and forth documents and visits to the Federal prosecutors office, even my arrest will expunged from my record. This is a real review, from a real client. Jeff is a serious lawyer. And he’s not afraid to go before the bench and do what Marines do. Fight ! If you’re in deep legal problems, you need a lawyer that is fully ready to take on the prosecutor. I highly recommend you make the call. I’m VERY glad I did!

After being involved in an automobile accident and having worked for a personal injury attorney there was no better law firm than Ramey Law Firm to represent me. I know from experience that Hardin Ramey does his best to get you every penny you deserve and never takes more than the client. From the start I knew I was in good hands. I’ve had close friends whom I referred to Ramey Law Firm. Those friends sought out another attorney and regretted it in the end. They complained of not being able to speak to their attorney and when their case settled, the attorney took more of the settlement then them. It was heart breaking to hear this from them. I will always appreciate and respect Mr. Ramey for what he does for people going through a difficult time and refer everyone I know to Ramey Law Firm. He cares about his clients and is one of the best, truthful and honest attorneys in Dallas, TX.

My experiences with the Law Offices of RJ Harber were positive to say the least. After getting a DWI I turned to their legal counsel and they handled everything wonderfully. I felt like Mr. Harber was on top of everything and I really appreciated that he always kept me in the loop with the progress of my case. He helped me get my licence back much sooner than I could have ever expected. If you slip up like I did, and find yourself needing a DWI lawyer, I highly recommend The Law Offices of RJ Harber!

A friend referred me to Jeff after I shared with her that my case was exceptionally complicated and since then he has been by my side for over two years. During that span, my ex husband has had three attorneys, all with different ideas of legal maneuvers they could use to beat Jeff, yet here I am in an even stronger position than when I first hired him. I have found Jeff to be a master at strategy, excellent at communication and incredibly loyal throughout this entire process. I read recently that most people go through 2-3 attorneys during a typical family law case, but I cannot imagine having an attorney other than Jeff. I’m sure many lawyers can handle simple cases just fine, but if your case has as many moving parts as mine, I cannot stress enough that Jeff is your guy.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
