FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up loving music. From my fatherÂs late night James Brown vinyl listening parties (while us kids were trying to sleep, mind you), to using my lunch money in middle school to buy cassette singles (remember those?), to collecting CDs from BMG, I began DJing in college. I love music and I love watching people listen to, dance to, and sing along to music. Simply put, I decided to DJ events, because I wanted to, in a way, give the gift of music to groups of people. I get joyful whenever someone jumps up, interrupting their own conversation with someone to dance to a song I play. I get joyful whenever someone yells out, "OH! That's my song!" I get joyful whenever someone reluctantly requests a song (thinking I don't have it or won't play it), and I do!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I mostly DJ weddings, corporate events, college events, store/business openings. I am not a "club DJ." Since 2006, I have performed at nearly 50 weddings.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Do not go with the cheapest DJ. Often you can end up with someone who will only play what they want to hear, someone who doesn't really pay attention to their clients or the guests. You want someone with appropriate experience. For example if you hire a "club" DJ for a wedding, and that's not what you want... you might compromise the experience.
