Dina Luu says, "We had our new 44 windows installed by Window Nation recently. Contract was signed back in 06/23. Hailstorm in Round Rock on 09/24/23 hit our house very badly, damaging 12 windows out of the 44. Our home insurance requested a quote to replace the 12 windows. We repeatedly emailed and called WN customer care service line. We were told EVERY SINGLE TIME, "Our service team will get back with you in 2 to 3 business days". Our first request was 10/19/23 via email. We still have NOT received any quote. I got the same " 2 to 3 " business days promise again today 11/08/23. I selected WN from 5-star review ad. Do WN really care? I don't think so.Update since last post. Eric from WN called and got all the issues resolved. Had WN do the right thing from the beginning, I would not review WN with bad star.!!!"See more

Maggie Zhang says, "We really appreciate Texas Window Stores help to install new windows to our house. Jesse from the store is super patient and kind to explain their products. The installation team is very professional. We had about 26 windows. It is amazing they completed in a day. When the crew came, they had 10 people in total. The team members worked closely with each other. The crew header James is super nice. Around 5 pm, James asked whether they may continue to work until they finish since they were 90% done. At the end of the work, James walked us through their work.We are really happy about the work they did for our house. We are very thankful for their great service."See more

Mark Baxter says, "Maverick Windows recently installed 21 NT Windows and 3 sliding doors also made by NT. We are very happy with the quality of the windows by NT. However the workmanship of the installation is almost more important than any brand of window. The crew at Maverick did an amazing job. From install to clean up, they are very professional and it's obvious that they have a lot of experience, and it really shows! A week or so after the install, we got a surprise visit from Steve Greene the director of sales. He wanted to just stop by and make sure everything was satisfactory and make sure we were happy with the work Maverick had done. This kind of Company (one that actually values it's customers) is a rare find these days. We highly recommend Maverick Windows if you're looking for the best there is!"See more

Maureen S. says, "Bethany Windows is a wonderful small business company. They work with a great variety of window selections; choices from each grade level for each consumer's personal need. Dan, the head salesman, founder and owner of the company was persistent but NEVER pressuring. His follow-ups proceeding his sales presentation were sincere and courteous. He was always respectful, considerate and straight to the point (not-to-mention full of some good window puns). He did not try to push me out of my budget or away from the grade level window of that I was in need. Dan also did all that he could to provide me with the best deal possible. I truly feel like he had my best interest right from the start. The installation process was a little stressful, but that was simply due to the fact that it was a huge project, which tends to come with stress, and a large investment. Dan and his lead contractor, Colby were kind, reassuring and completely supportive through and through. They were thorough with their measurements and work as well as incredibly patient; my little one was an infant at the time, so they were understanding of my family's personal needs during the process. Colby was/is hardworking. He modeled amazing work ethic and professionalism. It'd be great if other persons in his line of work took a note out of his book. It's been exactly one year since I had 18 windows installed and I would choose Bethany Windows again if I needed to. There is much more I could say about why you should choose them, but I'll simply end with highly recommending that you give Bethany Windows a call if you are in need of new windows."See more

Charles Bergh says, "I hired Conner and his crew from Imperium to replace the weather worn siding and to paint my 28 year old house. My house sits on top of a hill and is exposed to all of the variations of Texas weather. The specifications for my project were unique and included installing Zip R-3 sheathing, a ventilated rainscreen, and James Hardie siding. I also asked Conner to replace two French doors, install two sliding glass doors, and one window. The installation of a ventilated rain screen is not a standard specification for building contractors in our area. A rainscreen is a way to clad an exterior wall to make it less likely to suffer moisture problems that lead to rot, peeling paint, and mold. I was willing to spend a little extra money to add a rainscreen to my siding project to make the exterior of my house bomb proof to the Texas weather.Conner and his crew tackled this project and diligently completed it within budget. The crew did a good job of cleaning up the job site every day and at project completion. I would hire Conner and his Imperium crew again for my next home improvement project."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
