Alarm system installs start at $199 for a basic hardwired system or $299 for a wireless system. You own the equipment. Monitoring is $17.95 for phone line and $22.95 for Internet or Cellular.
Camera systems start at $999 for a 4 camera system installed.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I got in the security and life safety business by answering an ad in the newspaper. I worked for a large company for several years and saw how customer service lacked. I decided to start my own company and provide the service that the others didn't. That was 12 years ago.
What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common job is to reprogram an existing alarm system to call our central station instead of another companies like ADT or Brinks. This does not cost the customer any connection charge or trip charge. Since it is a monthly contract, we do require 3 months to be paid up front, but you don't get charged again for 3 months.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The best advice is to read the contract before you sign it. Do not believe a sales person. They just want your money. You shouldn't have to sign a contract that is longer than 1 year. You should own the equipment. Most of the larger companies have in their contract that they retain ownership of the equipment. That is why you need to read the contract first. Make them wait until you do.
