Left trash in the front of my house. Everything he pulled out of the plumbing he left in my front yard right by the front door to the house. All my neighbors and everybody who drives by and looks at my house can see the trash that Sosa did not pick up. I will not work with a contractor who does not pick up the trash they create from a job. Horrible business practice.

I hired Lloyd to repair two exterior doors. Both were in need of new weatherstripping and new thresholds, and one needed to be straightened so lock-set would work. Neither doors problems proved to be simple fixes, but Lloyd’s creativity enabled him to resolve all the issues and fix all the problems leaving me with front door and side door that look good, provide a good seal when closed, , and open, close, and lock as they should. Throughout the 2-day job, Lloyd continually kept me in the loop, explaining everything thoroughly, and discussing options as they came up, before moving forward. I found him to be honest, trustworthy, and extremely knowledgeable. Lloyd was friendly and personable, while also remaining professional at all times. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate recommending him, and using his services again in the future.

Mr. Silva came out the same day I posted the job and looked at what needed to be done, shattered sliding patio door window pane, gave me a very competitive estimate and told me he could replace it next day. Next morning, Mr. Silva arrived as scheduled and replaced the door in less than 2 hours. Excellent service would highly recommend.

Diamond in the rough as far as contractors go! If you need it done, this couple is the one to do it! They're the only company that gave me an estimate and constantly checked up with me and in the end, they stuck to the price estimated even though I asked for a few more things in addition to what was originally quoted. I know the job was more of a pain than they took into account before checking out what needed to be done but the price never changed. This is a true, genuine, honest, (pretty awesome if I must say myself) couple that work together to make their customers happy! I inquired about a few doors and ended up with 4 beautiful doors with new knobs, a hung mirror and a fixed chair and I couldn't be happier! We also found out we know some of the same people!! So glad we found them! Thanks Maury and Melissa!!

I have had the following jobs done by Daniel. Installed safety rail in bathroom, installed pet gate in living room, installed curtain rods in all bedrooms, assembled a huge garage shelving unit and set it up, hauled away a pile of debris and brush from back yard, met me at a furniture store and loaded up furniture in his truck and delivered the furniture and then assembled it and then loaded up furniture to go into storage and delivered it and unloaded it there. He installed a storm door on the front of my house. Today he is assembling a children's trundle bed. I don't know what he cannot do !!! I am a pretty critical perfectionist and to say that I cannot fault him for anything he has done, really says it all. He is very prompt, available and reasonable priced. He is friendly but very professional and polite and mature. I had so many projects that I wanted to have done and they were weighing on my mind because my husband is ill and cannot help with projects like these that I used to depend on him to do. Life is so much better with all my TO DO list items getting done. Thank God for this Jack of ALL Trades.

This guy knows his work! I just love my patio and deck! He was the most affortable and the best, I must say! He is now building me a playhouse for my daughter for the backyard and said he could paint it as well! Love it!!!!!!! I highly recommend Affortable Outdoor Structures! He is willing to make anything your heart desires! Oh, and he also fixed my crooked door inside by replacing the whole frame at a fraction of the cost as what Home Depot and others would charge! Wish I would have found this company when we bought our older home!!!!!!!

We hired Sean to do some work in our bathroom replacing a shower door as well as some repairs under our sink and the painting of a hallway. Sean was one of the first to respond and came out the next day for an estimate which was provided the next morning. The quote was fair and the work was done in a timely manner. Sean is professional in his interaction, responsive to concerns and is someone I feel is ethical and trustworthy. We would hire him again.

Mr Alex and his Team did an outstanding job for us. He did the following work for us: *Installed two Motion lights outside. *Took out a old set of Slide doors and installed a new set that has blinds between the glass. The the quality of work was EXCELLENT! *We have old double front entrance doors that needed redone badly. We were loosing air and when wind was blowing outside you could feel the wind coming in to the house. he re-did all around the door with weather stripping, etc and as he had said, stopped 90% of the wind from coming in the house. * They installed for us a new front door lock that includes combination numbers for entrance verses keys. They were very nice to take the time to teach my wife how to use it. They did the same with installing a video security door bell for us. *They also did a EXCELLENT job for us wiring up a large 10'X24' new storage shed that we have. They placed new Florence lights for us and electrical outlets in it. Mr Alex and his Team are true professionals. They do excellent work, they are trust worthy, respectful people to have around, and yet... there rates for work well done are very reasonable. Based on the types of work he did for us as mentioned above, I highly recommend the Alco Painting/Home Remodeling Co. Eddie Garza San Antonio, Texas

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.
