Tic Tac Remodeling
I don’t even know where to start. We had an old garage with lots of cracks and holes in the walls, some broken and missing shingles on the exterior, a corner of the garage was sagging due to foundation issues, the main garage door wouldn’t open, the side door was broken, and a tin roof with lots of holes and corners that had been lifted up, causing water leaks into the garage. What we asked for was a new side door, for the main door to be fixed and for all of the holes in the wall and the roof to be repaired/patched up. We didn’t ask for a completely new garage, which is possibly where we made a mistake, but we thought it would still be possible to do a decent job to ensure that we would get what we needed. We asked that none of the interior be exposed to the outside as lots of rodents had been making their way in and nesting inside the garage. We initially contacted another man who was referred to us and he quoted us $4,900 to replace the roof and fix the walls on the inside and outside. That guy didn’t respond when we asked for a contract. We then read some good review on here for Tic Tac, contacted them and Nir came out to give us a quote almost immediately. We told him the scope of work the other guy was going to do and how we wanted a contract. Nir quoted us $4,500 and sent us a contract right after we met with him. We all seemed very eager to get this work going. After signing the contract, you are led to an invoice with a button to pay—but the total amount is automatically what shows up so you have to click on a smaller link to choose a different payment amount. Us being so eager and excited that we found someone who wanted to do the work, we hurried to sign the contract and send the initial payment, however I accidentally ended up paying the full amount, having missed the link to pay less. I mistakenly used a debit card, was unable to cancel my payment, so I contacted Nir who even offered to send me his license. He said he could either Zelle me the money back or I could trust him. Nir showed up as planned and we thought, “This is great! Thank God!” Nir originally told us that it would be a 2-3 day project, however, at the end of a six hour day, he said he was finished. In all honestly, I was thinking he was just finished for the day while my partner thought he was FINISHED finished. Nir walked us through what he had done. He oiled the springs on the old main door and showed us that we needed to pull on it hard so that it could open. He replaced the side door and frame which we were very happy about. Nir had put up 4 support beams which caused the roof to be lifted up along the edges where the roof and walls meet so there was a large gap all the way around almost. He had sprayed foam to seal up holes/cracks in the walls on about 1/5 of the garage inside. After we spoke, he made us feel like we didn’t ask him to work on any of the garage but the one sagging corner. He had not touched the roof at all and tried to convince us that no squirrels would be coming in through the huge gaps around the roof. He further tried to ask us for $1,500 more to complete the project that we already paid for! After discussing expectations and possible miscommunication, Nir agreed to come back to complete the rest of the project, stating that he would take a loss. I can assure you, the work he did and the materials he purchased did NOT add up to $4,500. When discussing how and what he would use to fix the roof, he stated that he would not use the foam because it is not water proof or resistant. He mentioned using another material and even adding some plastic sheets to deter water from going inside. After we came home from work the second day, he had only used more spray foam on the ceiling. He did nail down the corners of the tub ceiling that had been lifted up. The rest of the work could have just been done by us. There was absolutely no attention to detail and no effort to even try and make the few spots on the exterior look…decent. He removed other shingles to complete the door work and left the old wood exposed. I would only hire Nir if you need your TV mounted or—be EXTREMELY SPECIFIC AND PRECISE with your wording of what you want. You will need to state what you want in as many ways as you can and write out the scope of work yourself, including materials and every detail you can think of. We would also encourage you to ask for the list of materials and purchase them yourself.
For reference, the first four photos where the vines are overgrown and with the brown door are what our garage looked like before the work. The rest are from the completed job.
