Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I do the task for the task, rather than looking ahead as to what the total income I will make on any given project. The project receives my full attention. I have been using two different types of transcription -- one type in the standard audio file transcription, and the other I refer to the University Style transcription (excellent for educators and doctoral candidates) yet within the expectations of my client(s). Communication and understanding are vital as to the client needs in re: having a broader time-line as in expectation of delivery of project to have the transcript completed. I have been told that my transcripts read like a conversation and are very easy to read. My rates are fair and low and reflect my appreciation that we are all struggling with the current state of the economy. My rates start at $45.00 and I give a special discounts for graduate students working on their dissertations. I have loved to do transcription since I was in high school. I like to remain busy doing something constructive that I feel confident about. The peace and quiet is awesome, even aside and from within the actual transcription of the file. This allows me to be more cognizant of what is being said during the recording and even if I do not understand a word or phrase, I can usually go back and listen again and perhaps even again, before having to put [inaudible] in the text if there is any that I cannot quite make out. That allows my client the ability to re-read the transcript while listening to the audio file because the people in the transcription session usually already know someone working on the same thing, or those who have worked on a similar task, prior to beginning probably one of the most important testing tools being utilized today within the field of Education. Addionally, I offer time-stamping throughout the document where the main speaker begins to speak again, with their initials, such as: 0:45 Interviewer: 1:03 Interviewee: Just one more thing -- I ask that everyone involved in a recording session be mindful of how important it is to speak toward the direction of the microphone so that words and phrases are less likely to be misunderstood.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I transcribe audio files via .wav and MP3 file transmission. The clients email me their audio file links as an attachment and I download them in order to perform the transcription. I deliver a quality work product -- a finished transcript, completed in a timely fashion. Severe time constraints are accepted. Not only do I transcribe the audio files -- I also monitor the document for spelling, punctuation, grammar and sentence structure. In some case, with the clients' permission, I will indicate where I believe paragraph breaks should be, while at the same time watching for run-on sentences and any inconsistencies withiin the document. Most of my transcripts read like a conversation because I maintain an awareness of readability statistics to improve comprehension long-term retention of the text within the transcript(s).

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would advise that they first ask how much the transcriptionist charges, up front -- with no hidden fees. I would ask them for the number of audio files and what sort of timeline they were looking fat for a turn-around time. I would not hesitate to ask a therapist what his or her credentials were -- // like how long have they been doing audio file transcript. Knowing these things ahead of time will save everyone involved a lot of time. And finally, last, but not least -- ask the prospective transcriptionist what their estimate would be in terms of the time involved in in completing their specific project.
