They went above and beyond my expectations! Jeff came out to provide me with a quote to have a tree removed that had fallen during a storm and destroyed part of my fence and was very professional. He even cut away part of the tree that was laying through the fence and moved it and placed a board in front of the hole even before I told him I had decided to go with his company. Several other companies came out before him and didn't offer to help with securing my yard and all gave higher quotes. The tree removal was done while I was at work and I came home to find that everything had been removed and they even boarded up the hole in my fence. I received outstanding service and would recommend them to anyone!

Just finished trimming my trees and had a large pile of branches that I needed hauled off. I gave Eddie a call and he was there the next morning to pick them up. Fast, courteous, fairly priced and professional experience. He was even sure to rake the leaves that fell from the trimmings before he left. I would definitely hire him again.

Miguel came to quote a major yard cleanup and tree removal. He was very helpful and gave honest advice before I even agreed to do the job with him. He did the entire project in one day with his team. That was only one day after I posted on Thumbtack. After the job, Miguel showed me proof of all the work he did and gave me some friendly tips as well. He was very easy to work with. I appreciate that he understood exactly what I wanted and got it done efficiently. It was hassle free.

This was an easy experience with a competitive company whose bid was considerably lower than one of the other pros. Ruben is energetic, straightforward, and follows through with what he says he will do. Great pro for tree trimming and yard work.

To begin with, I had a difficult install due to the treeline being on property line and had grown through the old chain link. I didn't want to lose any trees so Dean and I designed a fence so that I wouldn't have to remove any trees. His pricing was very fair and he even went the extra step of cutouts in the fence to accommodate large tree branches and still stuck to his original estimate. I would definitely use Aloha again or recommend him to friends and family.

We had two palm trees removed. Girl with a Thumb is one of the best businesses we have hired in six years of owning our home. They were professional, punctual, and keep us informed throughout the process. We received pictures of the progress they made throughout the two day removal. They also saw a stump from a previous removal that needed additional grinding and took care of it without asking for additional compensation. However, we gave additional compensation to show our appreciation. The work site was also cleaned daily.

Carlos came out to give us a quote on having some large trees removed from our property. He was very professional and discussed with us what he would need to do and the cost. After several quotes, we chose to go with someone who was a little bit cheaper than the quote we were given by Carlos. BIG mistake. The other company never showed up and wouldn't respond to any attempts I made to contact him. I got in touch with Carlos that afternoon, after it was clear the other company was not worthwhile, and he was able to schedule to come out the next morning. Carlos and his crew were very professional and did an excellent job of taking out two very large, very difficult trees. When they weren't able to finish Saturday, they cleaned up and blocked off what they had left and returned the next morning to knock it out. I appreciate their hard work, attention to detail, and professionalism and can't recommend them enough!

After one job with 50 Shades of Green I would enthusiastically recommend them. They worked quickly and courteously and whipped my overgrown lawn into shape. They also went out of their way to provide an extra landscaping service of pruning an irksonebandbovergrown fig tree even though it wasn’t part of the initial job. Much appreciated—I am a satisfied customer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
