Left trash in the front of my house. Everything he pulled out of the plumbing he left in my front yard right by the front door to the house. All my neighbors and everybody who drives by and looks at my house can see the trash that Sosa did not pick up. I will not work with a contractor who does not pick up the trash they create from a job. Horrible business practice.

Mr. Silva came out the same day I posted the job and looked at what needed to be done, shattered sliding patio door window pane, gave me a very competitive estimate and told me he could replace it next day. Next morning, Mr. Silva arrived as scheduled and replaced the door in less than 2 hours. Excellent service would highly recommend.

Diamond in the rough as far as contractors go! If you need it done, this couple is the one to do it! They're the only company that gave me an estimate and constantly checked up with me and in the end, they stuck to the price estimated even though I asked for a few more things in addition to what was originally quoted. I know the job was more of a pain than they took into account before checking out what needed to be done but the price never changed. This is a true, genuine, honest, (pretty awesome if I must say myself) couple that work together to make their customers happy! I inquired about a few doors and ended up with 4 beautiful doors with new knobs, a hung mirror and a fixed chair and I couldn't be happier! We also found out we know some of the same people!! So glad we found them! Thanks Maury and Melissa!!

Cris did great work. He came out on a Sunday afternoon and fixed a door that had come of its hinges. I was afraid I would have to buy a new door but Cris patched the holes and put the hinges back on and the door works just like new. He also fixed a couple of curtain rods that had been coming loose. Cris is a very nice guy, easy to work with, professional, and does great work at a reasonable price. Would definitely hire him again.

This guy knows his work! I just love my patio and deck! He was the most affortable and the best, I must say! He is now building me a playhouse for my daughter for the backyard and said he could paint it as well! Love it!!!!!!! I highly recommend Affortable Outdoor Structures! He is willing to make anything your heart desires! Oh, and he also fixed my crooked door inside by replacing the whole frame at a fraction of the cost as what Home Depot and others would charge! Wish I would have found this company when we bought our older home!!!!!!!

What can I say about Bud? Not only is he an outstanding handyman, he's a man of his word and has become a friend after all the work I had him do at my house I bought about six months ago. First off, I was just looking for someone to install a custom fence in my front yard. I wanted mid-century breeze blocks to make columns for the fence and he helped with the design with the number that we had to work with and figured out what kind of paint we needed to get the color correct, as the brick was just absorbing the color and it wasn't turning out at all what it was supposed to be, but he figured it out, using a different type of paint, to achieve the correct color! It is a very nice, high-end-looking fence now. I am extremely pleased and get tons of compliments on it! He knew exactly what he was doing and the fence not only looks fantastic, but it is sturdy and excellent quality! He also did all the painting of the rooms I wanted painted in my house and did a beautiful job of painting my kitchen cabinets a gorgeous mint green color! He also installed my beautiful chrome mid-century hardware on the cabinets, too. He painted my fireplace and installed beautiful, funky mod-looking tiles in front of the fireplace, which when the people flipped the house before I moved in, they put the hardwood floors all the way to the edge of the fireplace, which was a fire hazard. So, I found these tiles at Ikea and he and I lined them up in the design and pattern that we wanted and I got to pick out the grout color I thought looked best, too. Once again, quality work from Bud!! We also did some accent paint colors on the exterior of my home, some of which were his idea, and that turned out beautifully, too. I purchased a very cool mid-century door with 3 diamond-shaped reeded windows going down the center and starburst doorknob and he installed the door perfectly and painted it also. I'm very pleased with it. He installed a few rain gutters in the front and back of house and custom painted those to match trim. I'm also very pleased with those. He also shared with me that he made a cage in another person's garage and a kitty door for the cats to have their litter boxes in the garage. I thought that was a brilliant idea and had him build one for me. It turned out really pretty, too, as we used turquoise for the wood color for the sides and the wood lid. He used galvanized steel for the pin and it is very sturdy. Bud worked quickly and efficiently and always showed up when he said he was going to. He even developed a relationship with my dog, two kittens, and cat! He was always talking to them while he was working and sometimes they would get in his way, but that didn't bother him, as he is an animal lover! I highly recommend him to anyone needing any kind of handyman work. I'll use him again and again and am so happy I found someone like Bud. It's just amazing that I was looking for someone to build a custom fence and I got someone who could do everything I needed! Don't hesitate to use Bud!

This was a great experience! Tom came by on the same day that we got on Thumbtack for a quote, and came in at an affordable rate that was much more reasonable than the three other quotes that we received. He started two days later, and had the kitchen and two bathrooms covered on the first day, and the first layer of paint on the doors and drawers the same night. He shared progress pictures along the way to keep us up to date on how things were moving along. The first layer of paint was on by the second day. By the 3rd and 4th days, additional layers were added, and everything was cleaned up promptly. Additionally, Tom showed up each day by 8am, coffee in hand, with a personable attitude, and was ready to go. He was respectful of our time, space, and budget, and did a fantastic job. I would 100% recommend him in the future, and have already told several friends and coworkers about the fantastic experience.

We hired Sean to do some work in our bathroom replacing a shower door as well as some repairs under our sink and the painting of a hallway. Sean was one of the first to respond and came out the next day for an estimate which was provided the next morning. The quote was fair and the work was done in a timely manner. Sean is professional in his interaction, responsive to concerns and is someone I feel is ethical and trustworthy. We would hire him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.
