In 1999, Scott Miller entered the University of Texas as an eager freshman excited to wear the burnt orange colors. UT proved to be a stepping stone to his first entrepreneurial venture–a residential house painting business. As a junior in college Scott started a small exterior painting business in the 78704 zip code. During an entire spring semester Scott knocked on doors looking for homeowners needing an exterior paint job. Juggling a rigid semester of upper-division Finance classes Scott managed to knock on doors, deliver over 100 handwritten paint estimates and maintain a 3.5 GPA. When the summer finally came around Scott personally recruited two college friends to paint 25 homes in the Travis Heights area. I needed to get my cabinets painted in a time crunch situation and they were able to accommodate to my schedule and complete the job in the time they promised. It was an all around amazing experience and I would highly suggest using them for any painting project.

THANK YOU ERIK AND TEAM! We met with Erik before closing on our home. Unfortunately, we were not well educated on how much painting could cost and had sticker shock. Needless to say, we went with the cheapest painter. WE WERE DUMB. The painter ruined our carpet and did a very poor job of painting our kitchen cabinets. Of course, I immediately contacted Next Door because of the great consultation I had with them previously. Erik had his team in our home working within 48 hours. Erik’s head painter, Juan, and his crew worked tirelessly to undo the botched job of our first painter. Erik came by multiple times a day to check on the efficiency of the men and our satisfaction. My home is important to me and I was so sad about the poor job done by the first painter. These guys are HEROS! We did consult with another painter again before hiring Next Door. However, Erik’s professionalism and commitment to make us happy won us over. I would hire Next Door over and over again. You get what you pay for. Choose Next Door.

Everyone was fairly easy to deal with, despite the lack of organization. Only wanted trim/soffits painted and it became a complicated transaction. The team did not communicate well enough to understand the scope of work which resulted in me having to pay for additional work midway through the project. A couple of notes below: -I did not receive a copy of the modified contract until AFTER the job was complete. -Even though stated in the contract, painters did not scrape any peeling paint nor did they clean the “additional” areas. -They attempted to match and paint oversprayed areas which resulted in a different and noticeable color difference on the house. -My bushes were crushed around the house and they tested their paint sprayer directly on my grass, resulting in multiple dead spots. Overall their price was competitive but do not pay attention to quality (subcontracted the paint job) and no attention given to any of the bushes/plants around the house. Hope someone uses this as a lesson learned.
