About
Thanks for your interest in music lessons! I've been teaching since 1996 and can offer feedback from current and past students, all ages. Reading is optional for adults but everyone learns ear training to make hearing and playing music easier. For kids, reading music notation is not pushed immediately but ... it is an eventuality. We play songs the student likes so practice is fun & more self-motivated! Students learn faster when they play songs that they enjoy, so song selection is mutual, not just for the teacher. I currently give music lessons for voice/singing, guitar/bass, piano/keyboard, drums/percussion, harmonica, ukulele and mandolin. I can also advise students re: buying an instrument. Students here are not obligated to sign anything or to purchase a minimum number of lessons. For some it's a convenience but students are free to pay per individual lesson if preferred. Also I am very forgiving with cancellations because our studio is right next door to where we live. Instead of the common 24hr. notice requirement, I only need 15min. notice before the actual lesson time because I know things happen sometimes at the last minute. Lessons are discounted for Thumbtack leads at only $20/30min. or $40/hr. here at our studio in Sugar Land. House calls are $70/hr. We're located in Sugar Land 77478 near the Imperial Sugar building off Hwy 90 & Bayview. We have a high ceiling room with a nice waterfront view, extensive library for any style of music, indoor and outdoor waiting areas with TV & free WiFi and a park across the street as well. It's something I love to do, of course! Music is super fun. By always trying to make the lessons as fun as possible, students don't even realize they're learning half the time. My younger students keep me current on what is currently popular / on the radio. Close to home. I love watching students evolve, going from nothing to performing in front of others. If the band comes together then watch out. Also, playing music is a skill that stays with you throughout your life (if you want it to). When you teach several different instruments, it keeps things fresh. Variety is one of music's best qualities.

I went in basically knowing nothing about playing guitar or reading music. Within about a year of going to Giancarlo for vocal and guitar lessons, I had already formed my own band, had about 4 hours worth of cover songs, and had written a few of my own songs and was getting ready to go play live (before I moved states). He is a great teacher and really knows so much about music and playing. One of the biggest things he emphasizes, which goes without saying, is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! I would recommend him to anybody!

My first set of lessons these past few weeks were much more then I expected. I learned about how to approach music in a completely different way. His way of teaching is much more enjoyable then clear cut fundamentals from a book. I can't wait to see where I'll be in a few months.

I was seeking someone to give me piano lessons and simply googled " piano lessons" in my area. Thumbtack popped up! I filled out a few questions and within the hour I had several people reaching out to me!

He's a top tier music teacher. He's really good at many instruments and when he teaches them to you it comes naturally. He's also a really cool guy and fun to learn from, and he has the coolest guitars and bass guitars you'd ever see, not even mentioning the instruments I never even heard of before I started taking lessons with him.

Giancarlo is magic, when it comes to music! He has taught our son the last two years and worked with him on everything from piano to voice, drums, and guitar... just trying to help figure out what our son likes best. Giancarlo has given him an incredible foundation & long lasting love of music. He's a patient, kind, & fun instructor - what more could you ask for?!

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure to bring a notebook or spiral to keep notes in. Bringing a small recorder is also ideal for getting the best value from your lesson time. Also have an idea about what songs you WANT to play or sing, in order to increase motivation for practice time. Following a preferred style or artists keeps you on the track you want. Make sure that practice is daily. A 5 minute minimum before bed will keep improvements noticeable. Playing solo is fine, but playing in a group helps to nicely round out musicianship by forcing attention to time and listening to others. This is not mandatory but highly recommended.
