Melissa was a really fun easy-going person to work with from the very start of the planning process. She was very attentive and focused on trying to make sure that my husband and I got all the photos we really wanted, as well as providing her own personal touch and advice to make all our photos perfect. Her help on the day of the wedding was invaluable to my husband and I. She recommended venues that we were not at all aware of and they were spectacular. In truth Melissa behaved much more like a friend than just a photographer. As for her photo editing I can only say “wow.” I didn’t really know what to expect of my wedding photos but I have to say I love the final results. I would truly recommend her to anyone who is considering hiring a photographer in the New Orleans, Slidell area. Thank you Melissa!

BatCave Studios has shot my engagement photos and will be shooting my bridal photos as well as my wedding. The service so far has been great, they have been just as excited about the shoots as I have, very willing to sit and talk about different shots and ideas that we want. We are having a very nerdy/classic wedding and as such we want some very specific shots. Jessica and Nathan have been awesome at working with us. I would recommend their services to anyone. I am really looking forward this fall/Christmas as Jessica will be taking my family Christmas photos to be used as Christmas cards. Even though it's only June, she's been great about talking to me about projects far in advanced.

Chelsea is awesome!!!! She is very patient, kind, and she will do what it takes to get great pictures (even if it means letting the kids take pictures of mommy for a bit until they’re comfortable!) I would recommend her to anyone 110%!

We used Rick for both our maternity and newborn photos. He took the time to work in my ideas as well as his own. He was so patient to wait for just the right moment to capture our two-week-old. The props he used were so precious! They all turned out beautifully. A wonderful experience!

We were blessed enough to have Seth take our wedding photos and he is the epitome of professionalism! We've just gotten a sneak peak of the final product but we could not be more pleased with what we've seen thus far. Seths method and style of photography is classic yet cutting edge and his work exceeded all of our expectations! I would recommend Seth a thousand times over and if you chose to hire him, for your special occasion, you will not be disappointed. Seths work is that of a photographer beyond his years. We will never forget our special day and Seths photos play a huge part in the memories that were made that day. Many thanks to Seth and his assistant for helping make our day so special! Thank you beyond, John and Cristi Haskins April 2017

Kaelie is an amazing photographer! She does very well in every aspect and really knows what she's doing. Also, what makes her so great is that she has a degree in photography so she has the education to back up her abilities unlike a lot of these photographers. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Images By Us photographed my wedding and engagement session. Jeanette and Cassie were so professional, they arrived early both times and really took their time to be sure Corey and I got what we wanted. They had their own ideas and visions for photos and they also listened to ours. You can tell how much they love what they do just by looking at their images. I can honestly say Corey and I both enjoyed taking photos with them, and we are so lucky they said yes to being our photographer for one of the biggest days of our life. I would recommend Images By Us to anyone for any occasion and we will definitely be booking with them again! Thank you for loving what you do Jeanette and Cassie, it reflects in your images and Corey and I appreciate it!

Jamie is an outstanding photographer! Very professional and has the best ideas on settings for pictures. I've used Jamie for the last 5-6 years for pictures. She's done our family portraits, and both of my kids senior portraits! She is the go to person if you want excellent pictures!

Life is a constantly moving thing. Sometimes, it even seems to move too fast. Which is where I come in. It is my job to capture a few glimpses of the ever changing moment, so that in 5, 15, 30 years, you can look back and remember all those perfect, fresh little details on your newborn baby or how long your son’s hair was the summer you let him grow it out. I am an on-location photographer, specializing in children, families, and newborns. My work is a creative and unique blend of classic posing and modern free-spirited lifestyle. I strive to capture all the different personalities that make up a family, and create timeless memories for you to enjoy for years to come.

    About

I am a natural light photographer in East Texas. I enjoy all types of photography. I can be booked for engagements, weddings, maternity, family photos, senior photo shoots, sports, and other special events. My customers love my relaxed attitude and the way their family shoot turns out to be fun and casual, instead of stiff and uncomfortable. They especially like how patient I am with their children. When I shoot weddings, I usually bring a second shooter so that we don't miss any of those precious moments in time. During a special event like a wedding, it's very important not to miss any of the emotions of the day; whether it's a tear, a wink or a hug.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Where is the best place to take baby pictures?

Baby pictures are among the most popular types of portrait photography, and most newborn photographers are well versed in the best places to take baby pictures in their local areas. Some newborn photographers will come to the hospital to shoot the baby within a day or two of birth, while others have set up their studios to accommodate the needs of infants. Some parents prefer to have the newborn photographer come to their home or travel to a favorite park or other outdoor location. Like any portrait photography, the best place to take baby pictures is the place you like best and that will yield the types of photos you want of your baby, whether that’s posed and carefully lit studio portraits or spontaneous, casual photos at home. Work with a local newborn photographer to find a safe, calm location with great lighting and some privacy for your family.

How much does baby photography cost?

Portrait photography provides parents with lasting images of the first whirlwind months of a newborn’s life. The cost varies based on several factors, including the length and location of the session, the number of photos provided, and the amount of editing and retouching the photographer does. The national average cost for baby photos is $150-$200. Some baby photographers charge by the number of photos provided, typically ranging from an average of $299 for 20 high-resolution edited photos, to an average of $399 for 35 photos, to $499 for all of the images taken in a single session. Props and location affect the cost, too; an elaborate studio shoot with props and professional lighting may increase the cost to $600-$700 for 20-50 photos. Adding a second location or asking the photographer to travel can add $70-$250 to the cost of the session. Photographers may also charge extra fees for providing additional photos and DVDs, scheduling weekend sessions, and shooting siblings. Expect to pay at least a $50 deposit when you book a portrait photography session.

When should you take newborn photos?

Few styles of portrait photography are as tricky as newborn photos — the unpredictable infant is always in charge! The best way to ensure a successful photo shoot is to work with a local newborn photographer within the first two weeks of the baby’s life. Some photographers even work with hospitals to offer newborn sessions within a day of the baby’s birth. But newborn photographers usually recommend scheduling a shoot during the baby’s first two weeks of life, while the baby is still sleepy and relatively cooperative, especially for posed or studio shots. During this time, babies are easier to swaddle in blankets and dress in hats or headbands, and, because they often nap or nurse, can be staged with various props or be cuddled by their parents. For casual photos, most newborn photographers recommend shooting within the first six weeks of a baby’s life. Lifestyle portrait photography is more flexible and doesn’t require the baby to cooperate with multiple poses or props.
