I started taking ACWA self-defense classes not knowing what to expect. The team has an extensive knowledge of self-defense and the ability to help you gain confidence to use the techniques in real life situations. The interactive classes develop a sense of awareness of your surroundings and provide common sense concepts and functional defense based on easy, natural movements, not complicated techniques that require years to learn and execute properly. I have been able to build confidence as they have provided a toolbox to build from moving forward. I started in a class with beginners mixed in with more experienced students and never felt uncomfortable due to their ability to keep everybody engaged. Theyâre great at instructing to match individual students' level of experience and providing feedback without being critical. Learning self-defense at ACWA has been a great experience and I look forward to working with them through more extensive levels of instruction.
East Texas Krav Maga excels at teaching self-defense. I have been a student for almost three years, and look forward to many more. I had never taken anything like it before, but once I tried it I was hooked. It's based on natural, instinctive responses, so it wasn't hard to learn, even for someone as uncoordinated as I am. Nathan Lundstrom is super at helping people figure out what works best for each body type. From the first lesson I felt I had tools I could use if I needed them. Plus, it's pretty awesome to get to hit stuff.
I have trained on and off with Master Colvin for 13 years and can truly say it's the next best thing to being in the Kung Fu movies yourself. The training is difficult yet rewarding. His demand of high standards will instill this belief in you and show in your kung fu. His depth of knowledge and skills will astound you. For any true seekers of the art count yourself lucky to get some time with this living legend, hiding in the hills, where they so often do.
We have organized eight different combative sports and reality-based self-defense programs in a studio setting or group classes. We have been in business for over a decade. We were recently voted for the second time as the number one martial arts (self-defense academy) by Locals Love Us. What sets us apart from other schools is we have classes, which teach a synergistic format to kids as young as three years of age, seniors, men, women, boys, GIs and teens. Our chief instructor is a retired deputy U.S. marshal, former police officer, former U.S. marine. He is Cooper certified as a personal trainer, and also certified under the International Sports Science Association as a SMAC (Specialist In Martial Arts Conditioning) and SPN (Specialist in Sports Performance Nutrition). He holds black belts in Japanese Judo and Kempo, and is a brown belt in Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu). He also instructs cardio, as well as Muay Thai kickboxing.
