Additional service
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have been classically apprenticed to 2 of the top tuners in the state, and have benefited from multiple workshops, including Steinway workshops, Ron Nossaman rebuilding, Dan Manino (Head Kawai technician,) among multiple others. I can tune while talking, or with background noise. I love the reaction of a customer to the improved sound of their piano. I love meeting people and doing what I can to make them happier with their instrument. I especially love answering piano related questions, and explaining the workings and most correct maintenance to those who are interested in knowing it. I love kids and pets, and am never bothered by either one watching me while I work.

Piano Tuner Man's reply
Um...Well, I'm drawing a blank. Not a lot to go on, here. "Blah." To that I respond with an affirmative "meh."

I contacted the piano tuner man to fix one key. I first emailed and got no response. I then called and left a message and still got no response. I finally texted and he got back to me, giving me the run around for the next week. After 2 days of slow responses, I contacted him again and he said on a friday he would let me know in a few minutes when he could schedule a time in the next week. After I didn't hear back from him over the weekend, I texted him again on Tuesday. No response. Then I texted again on wednesday and finally got a response. He said he had a family emergency. and this is the text conversation that ensued; Me: "I'm sorry for your troubles. If you can't do it that's fine just let me know so I can call someone else." Him: "I was trying to arrange things so that I could drop by when I would already be in (your town) so that it would be cheaper, but that hasn't worked. I could do it next Tuesday morning but it would be $80 because the trip would be just for the key repair. Is that still ok for you?" Me: "Forget it, it would have been much easier if you had just gotten back to me within the last 2 weeks. I didn't even know there was a travel charge and you never made that clear. There are several close tuners I can call. Next tuesday is definitely not this week and that's not very professional either. Please don't contact me again." Him: "I am sorry to have offended you, I'll try to make sure that my relatives die at more convenient times in the future." I hadn't done anything to deserve such an unprofessional response to my statements about how he had handled me trying to set up an appointment. I live in the first area that he services listed on his website. It said nothing about a travel charge to my city. There are other technicians I can call who will charge $80 and be more expeditious in their scheduling and responses. I am surprised he was that rude to me simply because he couldn't see a benefit to fixing my one broken key. Too bad for him. I am understanding of family emergencies, that wasn't what caused me to forget the whole thing. It was the lack of professionalism and the disregard for his own policy about which cities he services on his website. I will not recommend or use the piano tuner man at all. It is too bad he wasn't willing to come and take care of my small repair and miss out on a possible lifetime of tuning and regulating my baby grand. I am also a piano teacher who teaches in Provo, which is near his location, and I never hesitate to recommend a good local tuner to my students.
Piano Tuner Man's reply
During this time, my email was sending auto-responses to inform that, since my mother's parents both died, I would be slow to answer, being actively involved with funeral and with the enormous task of executing the Will. I was perfectly willing to take care of the key repair at a reasonable rate, but the scheduling was tricky, a fact which I mentioned, apologizing for the trouble. Having been up front about that, I'm unsure how this experience was so offensive to this customer, but hope that they were able to find somebody to take care of the problem to their satisfaction.

Courteous, skilled Piano Tuner-- enjoyable to talk to as he worked. He would repair as well as tune our piano, and was very reasonable price wise. We'll hire him again when we're ready for the next tune-up!
