About
I have a doctor of musical arts degree in violin performance and pedagogy from the University of Utah, a master of music degree from Missouri State University, and a bachelor's degree in music from BYU-Idaho. I have been teaching privately for about 20 years.
I have worked with students of all ages and take pride in their individual successes. I challenge my students to reach their goals and potential, including the non-musical ends that can be achieved through the study of a musical instrument. I love watching students progress and learn to do things they didn't think they could do.

If you’re looking for a teacher who is passionate about music and the violin, look no further! I have been taught by Katy for two years, and she has not only taught me how to play the violin but she has helped me to gain confidence in playing. Katy is patient and flexible. She focuses on you and helps you to accomplish your goals. She encourages you, listens to you, and her teaching methods are phenomenal! I have also seen her perform and she is an amazing and talented violinist and musician. I love playing the violin because of Katy, and it has been such an honor to be her student.

I'm an adult easing back into playing violin after 20+ years - Katy has been very patient and supportive. She seems extremely knowledgeable of how to lay a solid foundation so bad habits don't develop/progress. She has also been considerate of my nervousness and is easy to get along with. Under her teaching, I expect to progress faster than I had initially thought possible and would recommend her to anyone looking for a serious teacher.

Violinlessons with Katy are the best. I've had several teachers over the years, but none of them were able to identify a problem and offer corrections like Katy can. She found gaps in my foundational skills and worked with me to make me a better musician all around. Rather than learn a song, I learned vital principles that I can implement repeatedly in all my work.

My son started his violin experience with Katy about 3 & 1/2 years ago and I have nothing but good to say. She is a wonderful violinist, teacher, and a good person. I highly recommend Katy as a teacher.
