Meppen was patient, understanding, flexible and relatable. Having a young baby can make photos hard, but it went well despite our baby being a little fussy in the beginning. There was great communication and the resulting photos turned out incredible!

Working with David was such an honor. My fiancée and I were in Salt Lake City for 2 days to attend my cousin's wedding and I had the idea to take engagementphotos at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I stumbled upon Thumbtack and subsequently David at Meppen Photography. He was well-within our price range and I loved the style of his photography. He was responsive when I reached out and I explained my situation. He suggested an alternative site closer to downtown that would give us the same effect as the Bonneville Salt Flats for our engagementphotos due to our limited time in Utah. His suggestion saved us the hassle of renting a car and a bunch of time. He remained in contact with me throughout the week and the day of the shoot.
The day of the shoot, David texted me in the morning and arrived on time. He also drove me and my fiancée to the Great Lakes Park so we could get the reflection photos I wanted. He was such a delight to work with and he was willing to do anything to get the perfect shot. I felt like I could really trust him and I'm really glad that I did. David knows what he's doing and he incorporated many of the inspiration photos I sent him. As we walked to and from each site, my fianceé and I got to know David and not only is he a wonderful photographer, but he is a marvelous person.
Most importantly, David sent us our unedited photos within 2 hours of shooting and they are AMAZING. I am so happy that we worked with him for our engagement shoot and would jump at the chance of working with him again. Thank you again for everything David!

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My portrait sessions are $300 for up to 1 hour at a location of your choice within Salt Lake City.
Weddings/events vary based on number of locations, number of hours, and number of guests. However, anyone that has signed with me for a wedding, I offer an engagement and/or bridal session for $250 each ($50 off normal). Additionally, if any wedding or event is paid up front in full, I offer a 10% discount.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically will first speak via messenger here on Thumbtack, text, or a phone call.
For weddings, I like to meet with the couple prior to the wedding at least once if I am not the engagement photographer also.
For families and couples, we discuss a location, date, and time prior to the shoot and meet in person at the shoot unless otherwise requested.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken workshops and classes related to various aspects of photography, but most of my knowledge has been self learned. The fun thing about photography is that there is never an end to learning what you can do with it, both in camera and in post processing.
