About
Knowing where my students are in their development is really important to me. I make note of each student's progress after each day of teaching. While lessons plans often shift depending on a students needs, a plan is in place for what needs to be accomplished each lesson to continue their growth as a guitar player. I consider myself a lifelong student to the craft of guitar playing. Teaching hundreds of lessons over the years has allowed me to find new ways to connect to students based off of their unique personalities. In finding ways to better explain subjects to students, I have learned many musical concepts at an even more comprehensive level as well!

Ryan is a great instructor. Very enthusiastic, mixes music theory and learning music from list I created. Creates sheet music on the fly by ear.

I highly recommend Ryan! I started out as a complete guitar novice. Ryan created a very supportive, encouraging, and enjoyable learning environment for me. Lessons were well structured, and I am now able to play as well as sing some of my favorite songs. If youre thinking of learning to play the guitar, then Ryans the man!

Ever since taking classes with Ryan my guitar playing has improved a lot! I'm very happy I decided to start taking lessons with him and haven't stopped yet. I started out by taking in person lessons when I was at Utah and now take online lessons with him after moving out of Salt Lake City. What I like the best about Ryan is his focus on simplifying the theory in a way that lets you get started with writing your own songs. Every class is a good mix of mechanics, theory and learning songs, and I've even learnt the basics of recording music from him. I find him to be personally invested in you growing as a musician, and he always figures out a good practice routine that pushes you but is also something that fits your musical taste.

I did lessons with Ryan for over 8 years and absolutely loved them. We are still good friends and talk regularly. His lessons work very well for people of all ages and skills in the guitar. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn guitar or move to a new teacher. They are well worth the money.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Depending on whether the student has played before or not, we go over what they know about the guitar and where they might have gaps in their playing. I am usually able to get a good idea where the student is and what the next plan of action is in helping the student in their development. While there is a lot of assessment in the first lesson, I try to always send the student off with something they can work on to get going right away!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have studied both privately and through college with some tremendous teachers. I have also studied on my own and work on music full time.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

It is important to realize that not all great musicians are great teachers. Find a teacher who is well rounded and passionate about helping you reach your music goals!
