Faux Finishing or Painting

We were extremely pleased and impressed with Patrick Kirwin Studios. We used them to faux paint a wall in our basement home theater to match the other walls that were painted years ago. It came out as an exact match. We also used them to do repairs on a hand painted mural in our sun room. It now looks as good as new. They used all quality materials and worked diligently until the project was finished. I highly recommend their skilled services.

We are so delighted with the fantastic Tuscan mural Patrick painted for us in our back yard. He was fantastic to work with, responsive from the very start and truly incorporated our ideas into a brilliant original piece. Couldn’t recommend him highly enough.

Patrick was the first of three who responded to my request. He assured me that the idea I had was totally doable and that he could do it. He drove an hour to meet me at a granite warehouse and then rearranged his schedule for me when my project was delayed. Today he painted a mural of 'granite' in my new kitchen...and it is truly beautiful. I would totally recommend Patrick Kirwin!

Patrick was a joy to work with! He met with us half a dozen times, while being totally respectful of social distancing and mask wearing. He was an attentive listener who took our ideas and made our descriptions, photos and ideas come to life. He first drew a pencil concept sketch at half scale based on many discussions and emails (see below) - it was a great collaboration of an artist's eye/mind and our thoughts and expectations. Then he incorporated all these into a color version (not shown). After additional suggestions, he crafted four panels, each 2' by 4', and painted our Irish family homestead. They were hung in such a manner that they could be spaced slightly apart, giving the impression of looking out a window; or they could be pushed together as a single large mural. Patrick's patient interaction with us and his excellent artistic detail (lily pads in the water, ripples near the bank, shading along the bridge, etc.) and treatment of colors (the subtle change in blue of the sky, the graying clouds that look like it just rained or is about to rain, etc.) are simply fabulous. He took his time to understand our vision and delivered a work of art that exceeded our expectations!

Muralist

We just moved into our brand-new home in July 2020 and wanted a mural painted in our morning room. I did a search on the Internet for muralists and ran into Thumbtack. There I found several names of which Patrick Kirwin was one. I connected with him and we started conversing on my ideas for the mural. Eventually, we decided it was time to do a consultation of the space. Patrick came over and from there we set a date to start the painting. First off, let me warn you, one mural will quickly turn into multiple murals once you see his exceptional and super clean work. He painted an amazing, incredible replica of a jungle scene for us. We chose this theme as we wanted to connect to our international roots. As you can imagine, a jungle scene includes a lot of green paint. Patrick was very careful and precise about paint not entering into areas that were not being painted. We particularly liked his customer service skills as he checked in with us for our feedback on the progress of the work. Beyond that, the details and his mastery of murals, colors, texture, shadowing, and balance translated into the most-loved room in our home. The mural brings so much joy and awe to our lives. We tried to decide on a favorite aspect of this masterpiece by Patrick Kirwin but could not as we love every nook and cranny of it. The representation of a jungle scene gives us the feel of the outdoors exploring nature and admiring gorgeous birds and trees. We have started thinking about our next mural by Patrick as one is just not enough. Patrick, you are simply amazing and highly skilled. Thank you so much for helping us to create fond and wonderful memories in our home through your incredible talent. Dr. Rhonda A. Thomas

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I figure out how long the mural or work will take, multiply that by my day rate and add a material and transportation fee.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

After contact, I will meet and discuss the project. I will do what the client wants to do and may make a small painting, sketch or model. After approval, I execute the painting. 50 % to begin, 50% upon completion of the project.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I attend and participate in the International Decorative Painter's Salon annually. I have a BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design. I have an MFA in Fine Art from the George Washington University. I have attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. I have been a resident artist at the Grifis Art center in Connecticut and twice at the Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences.
