Mr. Shugarman was everything we hoped for in a drum teacher. We were looking for a drum teacher for our son and happened upon Charlie. He had incredible patience with our son and was gifted at passing his knowledge on to our preteen. He is a great mentor and our son considered him a friend. Highly recommend Mr. Sugarman to anyone looking to grow in their drumming abilities!

Our family moved to Chesapeake in the summer of 2025 and my 12-year-old son placed the drums. By the grace of God we came across Mr. Shugarman and were able to immediately get him into lessons that same Summer. Mr. Shugarman is patient and kind and tremendously talented. In short order, Sean improved tremendously, his confidence, his drum habits and rudiments, and his ability to read and play music have jumped, leaps and bounds. My son respects Mr. Shugarman a great deal and so do we. We are so grateful for the year we had under Mr. Shugarman’s tutelage before we PCSed again. I cannot recommend him more highly as a drum instructor for a child of any age.

Charlie is the best drum teacher I could have asked for! I picked up drumming in my mid 30s and he has helped me learn the instrument and feel confident way faster than I was expecting. He uses his extensive experience to build you a custom training plan. He knows when to keep you moving forward and when to keep you on an exercise to give you time to work it out. Charlie also knows a lot about the history of drumming, famous drummers, and different drumming styles. Many drum teachers are only good drummers but not good teachers. Charlie is an amazing drummer and a fantastic teacher who loves to teach anyone to play drums. If you are looking for a drum teacher, you gotta go with Charlie!

Charlie is an amazing instructor. He has spent one month with my 10 year old son and he is already jamming a long in our family band. I never dreamed my son would be playing the drum set so quickly. Charlie is very friendly and gets along well with the kids. I gave him my highest recommendation. Book him now, you won't be disappointed.
