Before the technician even arrived, I got a call in the morning to confirm my appointment. Once Alex got to my house, I immediately knew I was in good hands. I needed to have locks re-keyed for a new home purchase, a replacement deadbolt, and a security door lock changed. The house is older and gives me plenty of challenges -- locks included. The technician assured me from the moment he arrived that he may be at my home a while, but he'd definitely get everything accomplished -- and he wasn't kidding. Over the course of three hours, he retro-fitted a security door with an exit-safe lock (required by DC for my rental unit), made sure everything fit and closed appropriately, installed a new lock in a space where an old and no-longer-used model had been (which required quite a bit of drilling), FIXED a situation I had assumed was unfixable with what he described as an "un-jimmie-able" lock, and was all around pleasant and wonderful. I can't say for sure what other locksmiths would have charged me for the work, but I feel that every penny spent was worth it for the well-explained, fantastic job he did.

Alpha Locksmith did an outstanding job fixing two of the door locks in my home and installing one new one. I've had two other locksmiths try to fix the locks, but after a couple of weeks the locks failed again. Alex Salinas of Alpha Locksmiths arrived on time, and unlike one other locksmith, had all of the parts needed to immediately fix the locks. Plus he was very polite.i highly recommend his service.

Unlike so many locksmiths I called, he gave me a firm price from pics of the locks and a brief discussion. He showed up promptly and he did a great job! Highly recommend!

The locksmith was fantastic! His replacement of my 50 year old YALE deadbolt on the security gate was a tedious job but his professionalism and knowledge was what made the installation look and perform perfect! Personal note: in this day of hard working service professionals that run up against jobs that are not normal and require extra time to complete; understand when these professionals are running behind. It is not their fault. Keystream kept me in the loop that a job previous had complications and was taking longer. I appreciate their hard work and honesty. Again, I cannot thank enough our technician, he arrived ready to do the installation both prepared and in a positive frame of mind even though I knew behind the scenes that he could have been frustrated. You very well might have a locksmith closer or cheaper....but neither of those two things count when you are concerned about a security/safety issue! Kudos to Keystream!

The locksmith was able to propose a lower cost option than the one we had been considering. He was very helpful in outlining the factors that should go into a decision and executed professionally and efficiently.

The technician came to the house at the agreed time. Work was completed neatly and efficiently. I thought the price was fair for the work that was required. I would use Omega Lock & Key in the future and would recommend if someone needs a locksmith.

I needed a new lock installed for our commercial office building. Moshe, the owner, came out to do the job. He was professional, honest and respectful. Of all the locksmiths I checked with, his prices were the most fair. He spent time to make sure the job was done to perfection. He even threw in a few extra keys for me! I will use him whenever I need a locksmith. He is a really nice guy!

I went outside in the morning to bring in my paper, and…I couldn't get back into my house. I forgot to unlock my front door before I closed it behind me. Always carrying my cellphone with me paid off once again. I went online and searched for a locksmith in Germantown, and I came across King Locksmiths. I called them up and told them I'd locked myself out. the guy on the phone told me what the charge would be, and said that a technician would be at my house within half an hour. Their tech got here right on time, and told me that he needed to pick my lock. He had my front door open in just under 20 minutes. If you need a locksmith, King Locksmiths is a top-notch choice. They were fast, efficient, professional, and their prices won't take a lot of weight off of your wallet.

After a fun day on the water, I lost my truck keys and could not find the spare, of course, this had to happen in the evening on a Saturday to make things worse. I have to admit to calling several Google results and getting nowhere all were call centers and referrals to people not even in the area (Annapolis). I found Superstar Locksmith after doing a more local Google search. Guess what! I actually got a real person this time, I spoke with Yoni and he said he could help and gave me a time to meet. He was extremely professional and quick to get in my locked truck and make a new set of keys as well. The price was very reasonable, especially during the off-weekend hours. I would recommend Superstar without hesitation. Thank you again, Yoni !! You definitely saved the day!

I requested to have 4 locks rekeyed. After looking at the locks recommended changing - they are old and the difference in cost was minimal for the new locks rather than rekey. The gentlemen went over the differences with me to ensure I understood - I feel much safer now with new locks and appreciate coming on a Sunday. Also provided 2 keys for each lock. Will definately use again.

He was GREAT!!!! He literally came very last minute - I called and he came 1 hour later and charge very reasonable - instead of the exorbitant prices others were quoting me for opening a simple lock. He was very professional as well!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
