Guitar Lessons
I'm a 40-something beginner with no musical background. I've always wanted to play guitar. After several months of messing around with youtube videos and canned online lessons, I started working with Mike about 8 weeks ago. I'm really glad I did. He is a great instructor. He is patient and takes an interest in tailoring the learning plan to my interests and goals, he is responsive and sends notes after lessons, and he is very encouraging! As other reviewers have said, he emphasizes timing and practicing with a metronome, and he provides clear direction on how to spend practice time. For me, a busy professional with a family, this has been key. I see improvement in just a short time and am looking forward to continuing to work with Mike.

Guitar Lessons
Mike is an awesome guitar teacher! He will spend the time so one learns and understands their lesson. He teaches the fundamentals of the guitar on day one and does not rush through anything. He will stress that keeping beat with a metronome is very important and is a big part of learning the notes. I only had Mike a short time due to my busy work schedule in construction; however, I plan on having him teach me again in the Fall.

Guitar Lessons
I’m a 60-year-old beginner and after trying to self teach for several months, I decided I needed some more structure and help. Mike has been amazing! He laid out a plan during the first lesson, reviews what we do through follow up emails, and has been extremely helpful every step of the way. There are two things that I’d especially like to point out: Mike is extremely knowledgeable about the guitar and communicates his knowledge in easily understood terms. The second thing is more important to me, I think, and it’s that Mike really builds confidence. To me that’s important because as a beginner progress can seem really slow, But every time I have a lesson with Mike, I leave inspired and ready to play more. Mike is a really great instructor, and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to learn to play or wants to improve their current level.

Guitar Lessons
I am still a beginner on guitar, playing only for a couple of months. However, playing a few things for family and friends, they always ask “I always wanted to know how to do that. How did you learn?” To which I confidently answer, “Get a good teacher!” Mike has done a great job teaching the fundamentals and correcting bad habits, all in the context of some classic songs. Learning guitar definitely requires a solid teacher and structure based on the objectives that Mike will guide you towards. With Mike, you will *learn guitar*, which is an art beyond strumming a couple of cowboy chords to campfire songs. If you really want to learn guitar, get a teacher. And if you get a teacher, get Mike!

- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I started teaching guitar when I was 16. I've been in rock, blues, jazz, folk, and church praise bands over the years. During the Christmas season I perform at various retirement centers in the Manassas area.
