Love how my room came out. I started with just putting drywall up but ended up doing floors and painting as well. My room looks really good and will use again for future projects

hired this contractor for a full interior paint job along with several exterior repairs, including an awning repair, screen door wood repair, and painting exterior trim. The work was discussed during an in-person walkthrough and confirmed via text message. No written contract or detailed scope of work was provided. At the time of the walkthrough, three rooms and the hallway were already approximately 90% prepped. I had personally provided floor coverings, including plastic and paper, and completed most of the prep work in those areas, including taping and protecting surfaces. The remaining areas of the home, including the living room, bathroom, dining room, and kitchen, had not yet been prepped. During the walkthrough, it was clearly discussed that all trim was to be painted white and the walls were to be painted tan. The project quickly ran into several issues: Even in the areas where I had already completed prep and provided floor coverings (plastic and paper), those protections were not properly used or maintained. In several areas—especially at transitions between rooms and hallways—no adequate protection was applied, and paint was still left all over my hardwood floors. This occurred in multiple locations and required me to clean it up myself. I was also unexpectedly required to go purchase additional materials for the crew. Although I agreed to provide the paint, I was later told to supply items such as tape so they could continue working. This was never discussed during the estimate and is not typical for a professional painting service. The jobsite was left in poor condition. Tape, masking paper, used rags, and even food trash were left throughout the home. No cleanup was performed after the work. Paint was also left in my sink, and it appears that materials may have been washed down the drain, which is not acceptable for a residential job. The walls had significant bleed-through issues. The contractor stated that multiple coats of paint (three to four) had been applied, but the problem persisted. Although some stain-blocking primer was eventually used, it was not applied thoroughly, and bleed-through is still visible even after additional coats. As a result, my kitchen will need to be repainted. There was also a dispute regarding the scope of work. The contractor later claimed that painting the trim was not included in the scope, despite this being clearly discussed during the walkthrough and recorded on video. After reviewing the video, this was still contested. The exterior awning repair was not completed to an acceptable standard. Old wood was replaced, but the installation resulted in large visible gaps, uneven seams, and cuts that were not straight. The lack of straight cuts led to inconsistent gaps across multiple areas, leaving the repair visibly uneven and unfinished. The work was also not sealed or caulked, leaving it exposed to the elements. Additionally, I provided exterior paint for the awning, but interior paint was used instead, which is not appropriate for exterior surfaces. Overall, the project resulted in additional work for me, including cleanup, correcting paint issues, and addressing unfinished repairs. Based on my experience, the work performed was not of a professional it was a work of how done it once or twice before.
