Had a great experience! He was professional, communicative, and did an amazing job on our bathroom remodel. The quality of work and attention to detail really showed throughout the project. I had a very disappointing experience with Pro Build. I was told the estimate was free, and I specifically made it clear that I would cancel the appointment if there was any fee involved. Despite that, I was later told that I owed $72.66. What was even more concerning was being accused of fraud and threatened with a report to Thumbtack when I questioned a charge that I never agreed to. I believe pricing and any potential fees should be clearly disclosed and agreed upon before any appointment or work is performed. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not recommend Pro Build.

Details: Kitchen • Backsplash • Less than 25 sq ft • No, but I will buy the tiles myself

Probuilds's reply
Alicia, I am very disappointed that you chose to continue spreading falsehoods by posting a slanderous review. Once again, you reveal yourself as the unethical, immoral liar you truly are. I don’t think you realize that every message exchanged between us is recorded and accessible for review by anyone. Let’s review the facts of our interaction and your misuse of Thumbtack. You contacted three different contractors, without any intention of hiring them. This wasted our time and resources. I scheduled with you before you even greeted me, and I came to your home. You told me your husband was doing the work but didn’t know what he was doing. When I was about to leave, I thanked you for wasting my time and money. You stopped me, and I explained the Thumbtack process to you. You then acknowledged understanding and asked your husband to get a tile from the garage. You were probing me for information on how to start with demo and installation, again asking for something for nothing. (See the pattern.) I informed you of my labor costs and the materials you would need to purchase for me to do the job. You agreed, said you liked the price, and planned to purchase the tile and schedule the work. Then, out of nowhere, you lied about another contractor from Thumbtack coming later that day. I already knew this was false because I can see the competition and respond to inquiries. I believe they probably met you before in the past. No other contractor responded to you other than me. Strike two! I waited over the weekend and followed up with you about purchasing the tile and scheduling. I knew the whole story was a lie, probably to give your husband a clue. I asked again if your husband was doing the backsplash. You responded, “Thanks! Yes, my husband is doing it!” Then I confronted you about wasting contractors’ time and money by falsely requesting professional help. During our exchange, you openly admitted that yes my time and others’ time are extremely valuable and should be paid for properly—precisely the point of this entire issue. I asked you to pay only for lead expenses and fuel to drive from Suffolk to Virginia Beach, totaling $72.66, which is fair for both parties. Especially considering you based your entire Thumbtack request on a lie to get free professional experience and knowledge. That’s not how the world works! You wouldn't refuse to pay your AC tech, plumber, roofer, etc. They would require payment for their services, and if you didn't pay, they’d either send an invoice (like I did) or take you to court. But you took it a step further by issuing threats via text and publicly slandering and defaming me—showing your true colors for everyone to see. This is exactly why we charge for estimates these days. People like yourself are always trying to scam the system for free. If you had been honest from the start, we could have avoided all this nonsense. If you want free advice, pack a lunch for your husband and drop him off at Lowe's or Home Depot for a class taught by hacks! Professionals spend years and decades mastering their craft. Much time, money, and training make us who we are today. That experience is invaluable and should never be abused. If you can't afford a professional, don't look for one. Yes, you are committing fraud—you’re misrepresenting yourself as someone in need of professional help, all while planning to lie your way into getting something for nothing.
