My job was a small one, yet certainly important to me. I am disabled and one of the two footrests on my wheelchair had broken in an accident (they were plastic). I needed someone who could remove the remaining footrest and replace both with metal alternatives. Without the tools or strength to remove the screws holding the original parts in place I was in a tough place. I turned to Thumbtack for help, but I really didn't think such a small job would attract any takers, and then Matthew Burstein entered the picture. What a remarkably kind, competent and helpful man he is! He fixed my problem in less than 24 hours, coming to my door to pick up the parts in need of repair and he returned with the finished product the next afternoon. He was such a sincerely customer service oriented individual I was just bowled over. You just don't find that commitment to service very often these days. I am so pleased with every aspect of this transaction that I will not hesitate to call Matthew with any other jobs that come up, and I'll definitely refer him to ALL of my friends and neighbors for their home repair needs. He performed a service that was so much more than simply repairing my wheelchair. He restored my faith that honest, sincere and skilled people are still out there and willing to go that extra step to see a job done well no matter how large or small.

We've had our share of carpenters, electricians, plumbers, "contractors," and the like work on our house. Hands down Matthew is by far the best.
I would 100% trust him with any carpentry job big or small, and would recommend him just the same.
We're so happy with Matthew's work that we're currently hiring him for another project.

W had our piano moved from our first floor to the family room in the basement. Service was prompt, carefully executed, and without any problems.

Matthew was super friendly, polite and knowledgeable when it came to getting rid of some of our old unwanted furniture. He came on the same day that we started discussing the project to give us an estimate and picked up the furniture the very next day. His estimate was very reasonable and accurate. He disassembled and removed everything without leaving a mess or damaging anything else in the house.

FAQs
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet face-to-face and discuss the concepts of the project at hand. I enjoy problem solving and that first meeting can be a great opportunity to get all the potential issues out in the open. If both parties agree to continue working together, we will discuss a timeline and start setting goals/objectives. The construction process is an on going puzzle with 'pieces' that change shape and size. So long as we continue to communicate effectively, we can complete any project on time and under budget.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a 4 year degree in environmental science and 2 year degree in construction management. I have been in the industry for 10+ years and have done everything from go-fer work to fine carpentry and boat building to commercial construction. I specialize in resource efficiency and tend to focus on: windows, doors, insulation, roofing systems, air filtration/movement, and moisture control. By addressing these key areas, we can fix the problems that are frequently the root cause of: rot, mold, structural instability, and poor in-home air quality.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started over 10 years ago as a go-fer in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. Over the last 5 years I have focused my efforts on building science and in developing means and methods to provide the best quality product. I started this work in Vermont by working with Efficiency Vermont and as an employee of one of the top ranked efficiency upgrade companies in the the state.
