FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I try to keep it simple and fee's are based on time and materials - I use an App called 'Time Clock Pro'. I clock in when I start, if I need a break I can hit pause, and I clock out when I'm done. The app tracks the Time and Date and calculates the amount due instantly. I charge for an initial Service call but only once, unless there is a great distance I have to travel, then mileage kicks in for subsequent visits. Some repairs require 2 or more visits either because Parts are required or it could be because of curing times for certain materials i.e. putty / mortar.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to have a conversation with the customer before we meet to confirm the scope of the work being requested, sometimes that helps as I can have parts in hand when I arrive for a repair, if it is a pretty straight forward job I'll show up at the agreed time and get it done. If the job is more complex, I prefer to meet with the customer and go over everything required - that helps both of us, as I can gain a better understanding of the job as well arriving better prepared for the undertaking and the customer will have a clearer picture of what is all involved before and during the course of the services being provided.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a young man I took an apprenticeship as a sheet metal mechanic. In the boat Business when selling a large boat it typically has to be surveyed and you can learn a lot from the Surveyors as to why some equipment malfunctions or fails - how some things get damaged from the elements and or being in a Salt Water environment. I've also worked with several other tradesmen through the years of which you learn from as well. I've always had a project on the go, whether it be refinishing furniture, fixing my own appliances, creating works of art using different mediums like carving rock and wood, casting epoxy resins and cement and by experimentation I've learned a lot.
