Nice crew, friendy, and generally okay. I may have asked too much of them.
Looking to save time, I hired them to frame a couple of walls in my basement and drywall them. Was supposed to be a 4 day project. Midway through, they asked for an additional 33% increase in pay.
The framed walls were crooked, and one corner of a closet wall was out of square by more than an inch at the bottom, I noticed it by looking at it. They questioned my sight. They measured it, blamed the new kid on their crew, and said they would fix it, and then drywalled it without fixing it. I paid for materials up front for them, which is fine, but again, mid way through, they under estimated by half of what was needed.
We needed to drop the celeing by 2" to clear some plumbing. Instead of adding lengths to the existing beams to keep material costs down as I asked and what they agreed to initially, they ran the boards horizontally, causing us to run out.
We purchased 2x6s for a specific wall to box some steel poles in. They used 2x4s + 2x2s to build the wall when we had the 2x6s sitting right there...
On day 4, they spent an entire Saturday with 4 people, and I felt they did as much as I could have on my own. On day 5, they still had not gotten to the bathroom (one 3' wall frame and drywall). At this point, they had framed out and drywalled about 2/3 of the project.
On my stairs, they were supposed to add two sheets of drywall to one side to match the existing drywall that had been done in the past and did not. I had to stop them from taping it up.
In all, I asked them to wrap things up. I ended up having to pull most drywall edges and several tape seams because they had air bubbles under the tape that they had finished. I pulled and remounted several sheets of drywall and spent hours floating the walls because they installed the sheets vertically. Again, great guys, and a nice group of people. Punctual and trustworthy. I think that this may have been a little much for them. In the end, I spent more double than I should have from other estimates i had received and I lost significant time in the project that I had hoped to have completed sooner by hiring someone else to come in vs doing it myself.

He failed to show up for the ceiling repair appointment that we agreed to and was confirmed. No phone call, no text message, no email. Finally, after more than three hours of waiting with no word, we get a text message saying truck broke down. However, that does not excuse the lack of communication. We were especially let down as we had carefully prepared the work area for easy access and plenty of room to work. Very unprofessional.
