Matt and Brandon were both very professional, went straight to work and made sure we didn't need to pay for services we didn't need! They also made it a point to play with our dog! ;) We would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to have their furnace, ducts & vents cleaned!

Eric did an awesome job on the exhaust fan replacement at my place. He was on time , professional and very friendly. He did an A1 level job on getting the fan replaced, opening up the duct , securing it from the attic and ensuring the Fan is well positioned. Will be be referring him to couple other folks as well.

I hired Dennis initially to install a new garbage disposal, but realized I also needed an OTR microwave replaced and two tubs caulked so asked if he'd be up for it before we met. He showed up 5 minutes early for the job, and finished all 4 tasks in a couple of hours (that's including a trip he took to lowes when he needed a new part for the disposal). His work was great, esp the caulk beads which are very smooth. His prices are right too -- he didn't even want to charge me for driving to lowe's. Great handyman, I've added him to my address book for anything I'm going to need in the future.

We contracted with this company to perform cleaning of our windows. The price was very fair and I feel that we received very good value. Inside, outside, screens and tracts were all spotless when finished. They even did two skylights. I would strongly reccomend this company to others. I know they also perform duct cleaning and when the time comes, I will reach out to them.

Let me start by saying that I have anxiety when it comes to talking on the phone, Ron was kind enough upon my request to communicate via text messages. He quickly scheduled an appt for us within a few days(based on my availability). When he was enroute he messaged me as well, and arrived on time. Him and his employee were very courteous when they arrived and introduced themselves(they were kind as well to thank me for my service as a military personnel). Immediately they noticed that there was a barrier from them reaching one of the ducts(due to shotty work from previous owner) so they quickly pulled out tools and neatly cut open an access area(of course after asking my permission and answering all of my questions). They explained the whole process to my husband and I and exactly what they were gonna do, etc. We were not left in the dark about anything and they worked diligently while being friendly to my kiddos and pets as well. Not only did they clean the ducts, but they also they cleaned the return blower, furnance, and also resanitized the whole system and my dryer vent for free! They completed the job thoroughly without leaving a spec of dust in our house! They also measured our vent filter upstairs and noticed that was very dirty and cumbersome to take out. They took measurements and ordered us a metal replacement that never needs to be replaced just has to be washed, which was super! Just like K&N filters for my car :)!! The only hiccup that occurred was that yesterday we finally decided to turn on the a/c and it wouldn't turn on. I first contacted Ron, and he talked me through the steps of resetting the breakers and the furnace. Once that didn't work, he gave me contacts(and contacted him himself) for an A/C professional. We got a hold of that individual very quickly(within a few minutes) and after Face timing with him to show him our situation, he saw us the next morning(it was about 1900 when we figured out the A/C was not working). It turned out that a wire just got nudged(in their defense though whoever installed our A/C unit did a horrible job so it was just chaos to begin with), so Jay(the A/C guy) fixed it, told us what happened, and also talked to Ron to tell him what happened. Ron immediately sent him a payment, and messaged me to let me know that he talked to Jay and the problem was resolved and he was completely apologetic about it especially being the first time that had ever happened. My husband and I were very happy with the services Ron provided, and especially for the fact that Ron apologized for the wire and paid the A/C person for it without being defensive or trying to make us pay for it! Ron has definitely kept to his word, and took care of us throughout the whole thing. Not only that, but he actually use other businesses that seem very knowledgeable and trustworthy. We will definitely stay with Best Air Duct Cleaning and would refer family and friends to them. Thank you again Ron!!!

We were very pleased with Albert's work today from Honest Air Systems. He was very personable and professional while here and did an 83 point inspection service of our entire heat pump, air handler and duct work system and left us a detailed report of test results and recommendations. At no point was there any sales pressure for additional services that were suggested. We were pleasantly surprised by the cost of the service: $79 and no trip fee, even though Albert came from Spanaway area and we live in Eatonville. Other friends of ours paid up to $160 for the same type of service from other companies. We highly recommend Honest Air!

Matt came out, did the job quickly and efficiently, and kept me informed. We needed some venting redirected and the roof and gutters cleaned since he was up there. He arrived on time, got right to work, and was done and cleaned up in good time. I'd call him again if I had another job.

Scott came to my home to remove an old over the stove hood vent and light assembly; which included the removal of it, the cleaning of the duct that vents through the roof, and then the installation of the brand new hood. He did a great job. He was on time and thorough and as an addition while on the roof, he threw in some time to clean out the gutters while inspecting the roof itself. I already have in mind a few more jobs for him. His rates are competitive plus he's a very nice guy.

I'm cleaning out everything, from the clothes dryer's blower housing and vent pipe to the outside of the house. Lint build-up in these areas makes the dryer run hotter and takes twice as long to dry the clothes. I will clean out the vent pipe for $25.00 and the blower housing for $40.00 for a quicker drying time.

About

Ventilation systems left unclean for long periods of time are one of the largest causes of household dust and allergy problems. Household dust is the worst offender for causing indoor allergy and asthma symptoms. Dust gets trapped and collects inside the ventilation system resulting in a big decrease of the indoor air quality and adds to the indoor air pollution in your home. Annual air duct cleaning will help improve the indoor air quality, reduce allergies and sickness and increase your homes energy efficiency. By simply cleaning and maintaining your HVAC system on a yearly basis (your dryer vent too), you can significantly reduce household dust and microbial contamination. For particularly sensitive individuals and those living in very high humidity environments, the system should be cleaned every six months. The (EPA) Environmental Protection Agency says indoor air has been found to be up to 70% more polluted than outdoor air! Let us help you, there are many things that we can do to ensure the air you breathe in your home is as clean and healthful as it can be. Services provided are the following: Air duct cleaning: - Basic negative air pressure - Deep cleaning supply vent - Basic furnace cleaning - Deep furnace cleaning - 21-point HVAC/furnace inspection - Insulation inspection - Return - UV lamp - UV installation - Repair/Replace air vents Air duct treatments: - Sanitize - Deodorize Dryer vent cleaning: - One sided/two sided - Sanitize Please call for a fast and friendly quote today.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

  • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
    • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
    • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
    • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
  • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
  • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
