Chris was a nice guy who was determined to do a good job. For cast iron, experts recommended that nickel braising be used to adequately repair the broken piece from my KitchenAid range cast iron grill grate. Chris started by mounting the metal work backwards and used a small 110 volt arch welder to mend the broke piece. The piece had to be cut off and turned around. I provided a metal welding table for Chris to work on so he had a flat surface to work on. Chris did not make any jigs to insure the broken piece was mounted flat to the rest of the grate nor insure spacing was consistent between the other prongs of the grate. Consequently, the mount was uneven and crooked. In Chris's attempts to bend the prong to align it, it broke off 2 additional times in two different places which again had to be welded. By the end, the metal of the broken piece was so compromised from metal fatigue from welding and grinding that as soon as I put a pan on it this morning it broke again. In addition, Chris had to borrow a battery from me for his grinder and an extra retaining nut to hold the wheel to his grinder + the AAA batteries on his welding helmet were dead so he couldn't see through his visor. I gave him fresh ones. He also didn't have any appliance paint to finish the job. I paid Chris $160 for a job that should have taken @ an hour to complete. It took him from @ noon to 5 p.m. with me constantly having to check in on him to correct his shoddy work. Chris also ground off some of the top side finish so his ground clip had something to connect to. That could have easily been done to the underside so no one would see it. As soon as the grate broke again this morning, I called my bank and placed a stop payment on the check. I wouldn't recommend him to glue 2 sticks together. Below are before and after photos
