FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge by the hour with a two hour minimum for most of my services. Bridal packages and pregnancy henna are charged a flat fee instead, in order to remove time pressure and ensure both my client and I feel comfortable taking breaks as needed.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I think it's important to network with my peers, who are located around the world, to stay abreast of current issues. For example, there has been a lot of press recently about mass-produced chemical "henna" which is really not henna at all, but a chemical ink marketed as henna. It's dangerous, and usually used by uninformed artists looking to make quick money in a tourist location or salon. It helps to know what people are seeing so that I can better inform my customers of what to look out for. On a more positive note, knowing what the latest henna trends are in other areas help me to know what my customers might like to see at their next party!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Henna began as a hobby (a very intense hobby!). Eventually my work reached a professional level, although I was still hennaing family and friends, so I decided to open a business. My initial idea was simply to be able to have more opportunities to do henna, and since then I have expanded into selling high quality supplies to beginners as well as many well-known professional artists throughout the US.
