Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hi there! I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from The Boston Conservatory, and I am experienced in teaching violin and cello in addition to the viola. I currently work as a teacher and a performer, serving as Associate Principal with the Helena Symphony. I am a classically-trained violinist and violist, and though I love performing, teaching is my true passion. As an educator, I have worked with students of various ages and backgrounds at several schools, music festivals, and have managed my own private studio over the past 10 years. I am fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, and French, and therefore offer to teach lessons in those languages if the student so prefers. I don't believe there is one teaching method that fits everyone. Therefore, I take a personalized approach with every one of my students in order to best fit their learning style and for them to have a positive experience. Thanks and I hope we can work together! --Mariya

Mariya is very encouraging to my 9yr old daughter who is a complete violin novice. I love that she finds the good things my child is doing and lets her know. Also, easy to follow, funny, and very talented.

Details: 6 - 9 years old • No formal training • No, the student cannot read music • What the teacher recommends • Classical • No, but the student is planning to purchase a violin and would like the teacher's advice on it • 30 minutes • At the pro’s location

Very happy with violin lessons for my 12 year old daughter. Mariya is clearly comfortable and experienced working with kids this age and she is helping my daughter to be a better player in a focused but non-intimidating environment.

My son enjoys his lessons with Mariya and looks forward to them each week. He feels he has improved a lot since he started with her. Mariya is very easy to work with, and has been accommodating to our schedule. We highly recommend her for music lessons!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I teach from my home, but I am also able to travel to students' homes for an extra $10 per hour.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

With every new student, I use the first lesson to get an idea of what their level is, what their musical background is, what their goals are in learning music, and what learning style they have. Based on these factors, I then develop an approach and a curriculum of repertoire and learning tailored to their individual needs. With every new student, I also share a bit about my own background and my approach in order to ensure that we are both on the same page.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Past Faculty Positions: -The Evergreen Music Festival (Tacoma Youth Symphony) -Maple Valley Youth Symphony -Edmonds School District -Music Conservatory of Sandpoint -Summer String Academy -Over twelve years' experience teaching violin/viola/cello privately in the Northwest and in Boston. Past Orchestral and Substitute Positions: -Helena Symphony (associate principal position) -Commonwealth Lyric Theatre (principal position) -Berklee College of Music Filmscoring Orchestra (principal position) -Billings Symphony -North Shore Philharmonic -Quincy Symphony Orchestra
